Re: Alien abduction

I think I know the "solution", it helps to know that this was originally an item in a supposedly "extremely high IQ test", and also that I have seen this puzzle posted to many fora but noone has a clear solution (or none that I found when I googled this puzzle 3 years ago). So my...

I cant google these fonts "ℬ.ℳ.ℱ.". Also if you know how a special character looks, so you can draw it, but not how to type it, how can you find its name? Hmm maybe draw it and use google image search.

Ok, so conclusion: We can define some arbitrary axioms such that the sum is 1. We can also define some natural axioms such that the sum is less then 1. The same applies to the "length" of [0,1).

There is no such thing as a sum of an infinite series. People think you get 1 by summing infinitely many terms. Wrong, its just meaningless arbitrarily defined symbol manipulations. Using other number systems, ie non-standard numbers then 0.999...<1. Why can't I sum infinitely many terms? The stand...

Communication always involves some things that are assumed, and this is, most of times, justified. In this case, it's quite clear that people are talking about 0.999... as being the same as http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/3445/codecogseqnw.gif I see no problem in this. The "..." repres...

Why the f*** r u guys arguing. 0.999... is simply defined as 1. You cant deduce it logically. You need to define what your symbols mean before you make a logical argument. You cant just look at some new symbols and try to guess or argue for what they mean. Such arguments have value 0. None of you ca...
