Re: 1202: "Girls and Boys"

The version of the rhyme I heard was, "X goes to Jupiter to get more stupider, Z goes to Mars to get more candy bars." Insert the gender that does and does not have cooties when you're six, respectively. Q1: Why was cooties never endemic in the UK? Was there a mass immunisation programme?...

Ugh I hate "security question" requirements that don't allow custom questions. Custom questions means I can quiz myself on the conlang poetry I used to write when I was a kid. Maybe I should start filling them out in-character with one of my teen-years OCs that never saw the light of day. ...

Nicely executed art... it takes advantage of the soft palette available to displays, that would otherwise be muddled in printing. Yes, there's just so much that's geared entirely toward the digital medium; one the one hand, it's cool and exciting, and on the other, it means fans' avaricious dreams ...

I only just got the double meaning of the latest update. Durr. I know. The only way I ever access my school's website is by going to google and typing "UIC $what_i_want_to_find". Letting google sift through all the crap is a much more efficient use of my time. Same. Unless I've memorized the URL for a certain page, and it's easier to type than the search term.

I don't understand people who say that the Net of the Ender books was fine back then but isn't now. Is 1984 ridiculous because of the technologies it incorrectly supposes for the titular year? No. AU.

Digger, by Ursula Vernon, is another one. You probably won't find it in a library or local bookshop, but I know the books are available through Amazon and you might find it in some comic shops. The most recent page and the first 200 or so pages are also available for free online, and you can subscr...

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that graphic novels are a subset of comic books? Think about it in terms of book vs. novel -- comic books don't have to be fictional, but graphic novels do. "Book" only speaks to the physical medium, while "novel" speaks to a type of struc...

Because his stated morality corresponds exactly to his actual morality. (It may be clearer if you see "actual" as "act"+adjectivesuffix.)

I recently discovered Ursula Vernon's Digger, which is... hmm... humorous epic fantasy with talking wombats?

And (of course) I've always been an enormous fan of HERO, which is... uh... slightly surreal allegorical fantasy with a friendly shapeshifting motorcycle/duck/flying demon mount.
