Re: Need advice on a new desktop computer...

I suppose I should be more clear...The $600 is for the tower alone. I've had many friends use Linux and I'd be happy to give it a try. I'm pretty happy with Microsoft XP, is Windows 7 fairly decent? And the operating system will need to be included in the price...I don't believe I get a discount for...

Re: Need advice on a new desktop computer...

I'm definitely looking for a desktop computer. The laptop I have will definitely work for any situation where I need a portable computer, I'd just like my main computer to be a desktop. I'm not partial to any operating system. I run Windows XP 32bit right now and I'm quite happy with it, but I'd be ...

Need advice on a new desktop computer...

Ok. For the past 4 years I've put up with the quirks from my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop and I've had about enough. This one still works well enough to be portable, so I don't need another laptop, but I'd like some advice on a desktop. I'm a math grad student. Basically I need something reliable and ...

Re: Graphic Calculator Brand

I have had my TI 84 Plus for some time and I love it! I've never used any other brand though. But once you get used to it, its fairly user friendly.

Maybe that's just for students, though.

I am a student and I didn't know that! My school has a license for it, but I bought a copy to keep for my home computer so I wouldn't have to be running up to campus all the time. Darn!

Re: Graphs or diagrams that describe your life

I seriously wish I was kidding on this one...When talking to the guys that are in my date-able range of attractiveness, the absolute dumbest things come out of my mouth. But I'm fine around guys that are drop-dead gorgeous. I don't get it. http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o396/starsxinxyourxeyes/u...

Re: High and low point of your day

High points: There are some very gorgeous boys playing football outside my apartment window at the moment.... *swoon* I have a fully-functioning washer and a dryer in my apartment for the very first time!

Low point: I had to do laundry today. I hate doing laundry.

Re: Book on proofs?

At my school, we teach proof writing as its own class, which is different than most other universities. One of our professors wrote a book specifically for the course and it was the best money I've ever spent in my life. It goes through basic logic, direct proofs, proofs by contradiction, proofs by ...

Re: Math Software

If you're going for a strictly geometry standpoint, i.e. measureing angles and having parallel lines, Geometers Sketchpad is a God-send. I managed to get a copy for about $40. It can do some basic plotting, but I never got the chance to mess around with that part of the program. Its also fairly easy...

Virtual Memory Minimum too Low

I am the annoyed owner of a Dell Insprion E1505 laptop. Of course as soon as my warranty expires my computer suffers a major hard drive crash. My father and I managed to replace the hard drive, with only minimal trouble...until now. All of a sudden, one day this little window popped up that said vir...

Re: "Frustration" Discussion

I was browsing through the bumper stickers on facebook and was pleasantly surprised to see that comic up there.

It reminds me of when I let my first boyfriend attempt to get my bra off. I'm sure that at the time he felt like he was trying to solve a Rubix cube.

Re: Passionate about a calculator?

I'm in love with my TI84 Plus. I bought it my senior year in high school. Its been there for me through it all. I don't find much use for it anymore. Higher level math classes aren't about numbers as much as theory. I always have it in my backpack in the case of a math emergency though. :) Its name ...

Re: What degree have/are/will you studied/studying/study.

I'm a math major, history minor at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was a math education major for the first few semesters but the more math I learned the more I decided I wanted to study pure math. When I graduate with my bachelor's degree, I'm going to go to graduate scho...

You look so happy! :) I wish I looked that happy in pictures.

I spent 4 years on the colorguard at my high school, and we always smiled when we performed, thus I can now smile genuinely on command. Its one of my finer traits ;)

Re: Awesome Teacher Quotes

In my Euclidean Geometry class in my sophomore year in college, we were working through a long proof requiring a lot of different pieces and my Arabic professor went into this long story from his childhood, which is as follows. There once was a guy walking through the desert who found a shoe horse (...

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

Hi there!! My name is Jessica. I'm a 20 year old college student. I'm a math major with a minor in history. I intend to go to graduate school for math for my PhD. Personally, I'm a hopeless romantic and an eternal optimist. I like watching old movies when I can't sleep (which is often) and getting b...
