Re: Pant Thread (because we need more panting)

Cheese makes sense if milk is a problem. Many breads also use milk as an ingredient. Maybe try a French type bread; when I make a French Bread recipe, the ingredients are water, salt, flour, and yeast. I'm aware, and tried it. But nope, it makes no difference. I don't see how the coffee could have ...

Re: Pant Thread (because we need more panting)

So over the past five or six months I've been doing dietary experiments, and I can only conclude one thing: everything except fruit, meat, veggies and some other very basic things make me get breakouts. When I eat only those things, my skin gets clear in a few weeks. Add milk? BAM, big breakouts all...

Re: Coding: Fleeting Thoughts

Not necessarily coding: learning more computer networks and all the internet stuff and coding and MOAR STUFF, and there is too much of it. -- Just a quick question to ask my fellow coders. I was going through some old project folders on my computer the other day, I cam across one project that looked...

Re: The "IT DOESN'T WORK!" thread

I've recently taken up my hobby of messing around with shellcode again, and quickly found out that doing that in GDB on the x86_64 is *much* more frustrating. AT&T style doesn't help. (Yes, yes, I know of the Intel parameter thingy.)

Re: Screechings of the Great Unwashed (Meander to the Morgue

Aaaaand I have a new avatar. :D Pikachu doing Gangnam Style? Yep. :D I call the way I prefer it "The One True Way", and the way others prefer it "wrong". That only works when you can smite the unbelievers, are in the majority, etc. When in the minority, preach tolerance. ...

Re: Screechings of the Great Unwashed (Meander to the Morgue

Discussing the 'correct' way to cook something? No good can come of this.

Me, I like my bacon to be fatty. Most of my family prefers the crispy kind. We call this 'differences in individual taste'.

Typically, I was just watching Futurama where Bender threw Fry's dead dog in the core of the earth.

Serious question: would that not be 3:30, or does English differ from Dutch there? When we say 'half vier', we generally mean 3:30.

Re: Screechings of the Great Unwashed (Meander to the Morgue

So, I was curious after seeing the reactions here, and for science(tm) I bought two dozen eggs and got some friends over. Scrambled one dozen eggs in the microwave, one dozen in an actual frying pan. Had one friend serve them to the others, obviously without him knowing which eggs had been scrambled...

I just found out you can also cook eggs using only a microwave. My cooking habits have just become even lazier.

I'm not sure I know what story you're talking about. Do you have a link, or some other way for me to find it?

Of course, this is xkcd.

Rephrased question: did you make any new year's resolutions? If so, will you tell us which ones in the same reply wherein you tell us that you made the resolutions?

Re: What is your favourite book?

It's impossible for me to really pick a favourite book, given that there are so many different genres and different kind of books. But if I had to pick a few right now, I'd probably pick "Neuroscience: Exploring the Brain", by M.F. Bear as far as actual textbooks are concerned. For non-tex...

Re: Proof that i=0 (not really but still)

As everyone knows, only 2*pi*i is equal to 0. In case Heptadecagon didn't convince you, here's an alternate proof: e^2*pi*i = e^0, so yes, 2*pi*i = 0. By the zero product property, we can conclude that either 2, pi, or i must equal zero. We know it isn't pi (because there are circles with nonzero c...

Re: Anybody hear anything about nanowire batteries yet?

You may be able to find more information on Dr. Cui's research page at Stanford University. I was unable to find anything pertaining to commercialization, though. This isn't particularly surprising: researchers give optimistic and semi-realistic timelines in interviews, which brings in more grant mo...

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

Hi, I'm known as Protoform on the almighty internet, and I'm new on the forums. I've been reading the xkcd comics (and more recently the what-if ones, too) for a long time, but never got around to signing up on the forums. I've been lurking for a month or so, and finally decided to sign up. Oh, righ...
