Re: Pi Day

So, you can't actually search for "pi" on these forums. I had to google "pi day xkcd forum" to find this venerable thread... But anyway, I was looking for something fun to do to celebrate Pi day, which is this Saturday. Does anyone have any suggestions? Some thoughts of my own: T...

Re: What webcomics have you STOPPED reading?

scary go round. I got distracted, fell behind, and never felt like it was worth it to catch back up again. I really liked the art style, though. 8bit, because I'm older than fifteen I read megatokyo every year or two, when I figure Mr. gallager has written enough to make it worth my time, but the la...

The article clearly states that DNA doesn't last more than 60,000 years. As raptors were around what, 65,000,000 years ago, I guss that Jurassic Park will remain sci fi. Unless we go for the far more fantastic idea of a dinotopia. I would like to state, for the record, that I have always (and by alw...

Re: PETA's take on Cooking Mama

When I was a kid, I used to strip the bark off of cedar trees and eat the inside of the bark. It was sweet and ceadry tasting, sort of like a mango without the vitamin C. I would say that an apple is between 1.8 and 7 times better than Cedar, depending on the apple.

Re: President-Elect makes environmental responsibility priority

I swear, Obama winning the presidency is the first time I've ever felt good about American politics. Everything I've heard since then has just confirmed my feelings. It's about damn time we had someone in power who cared about the shape of planet for his grandchildren. But looking at Bush's kids, ca...

Vitamin D is produced in the human body when sunlight touches skin. Ten m...

Re: Father 'murdered' by son, aged 8

I recall that the youngest person to ever be given the death penalty in a US court of law was a fouteen year old black boy. But that was a race thing. Usually, when a child is tried as an adult, they get life without parole.

female, 22 1) What is your religion/faith/belief and does it have a form of Hell or equivalent afterlife. I practice bhakti yoga. It's a little branch off of Hinduism, but basically states that there is only one God, and if you're worshiping God, regardless of which of His many names you use, it's a...

Re: eating meat

Oh and that whole least harm idea doesn't really work, as just about all of our food animals eat grain, 12 pounds for every pound of meat produced, according to this article http://www.goveg.com/environment-wastedResources-food.asp . Pasturing enough animals to meet current meat demands is pretty uu...

Re: Twilight?

As a person living two towns over from Forks, I really have to say that whatever the glitter capabilities of vampires, Forks is simply not the sort of town anyone would move to. Everyone out there is poor, has bad dental hygene, and know everyone else. It's an extremely small town whose economy is b...

Sleep? But if you fall asleep, then who knows where your brain would go. If you stay awake long enough, then you'll dream just the same, but at least you can watch them.

Re: eating meat

I am a vegetarian, and I have been for almost a year, but for years previous, I was a "conscientious omnivour," or someone who only ate meat from local sources. I didn't eat very much meat in that time, but what I did was top-quality, raised by my friends and neighbors, and I even helped w...

Re: An alternative to evolution AND creation.

I always felt that the whole "God vs. Science" argument was rather silly. Like anyone building something as complex as the universe wouldn't put rules in it. Interresting book I read recently on this subject: The Language of God, by Francis S. Collins, head of the Human Genome Project.

My college just got a new library. After two years in a tiny classroom while construction was going on, the librarians are finally in their new home. And you know what? The floor is already sqeeky.

Edit: I used to have CB Blue. I loved that cd so much it died.

I had a friend in school who would always steal my bookmarks from my books, like he was funny, so now I always just make a point of remembering where I was in a given book. Its not a crazy brain luck-out or anything, it's something that I learned, through way more practice than anyone should have to...

Re: When to eat meat?

Maybe this is uncalled for, and I'm sorry if anyone finds this offensive, but maybe you could just not eat any chicken at all? Almost no one really needs to use animals as their source of protein, and it's a pretty heavy thing to be responsible for something's death because you enjoy it. It doesn't ...

I've been inrolled in public schools all over the US (11 of 'em K through 12), and I'm pretty sure it's not so much the private/public thing as the rich/poor thing. I went to three different high schools in Maryland, Arizona, and Oregon, with dramatically different average wealth levels. It was pain...
