Re: Social Literacy Thread (split from Rant)

Being literal and saying what I mean (and assuming the same of others) seems way easier than carefully shading everything for nuance that will make the other person feel the way I hope they feel about what I'm saying (or trying to figure out which of the many possible interpretations of their nuanc...

A better way to put it is probably "you can't prove a never ." Or "an impossible," I guess. ...which is true! Technically. Statistically, no matter how much data you acquire, it won't be statistically significant against an infinite span of time, because...infinity. And experimen...

Re: [SAFESPACE] LGBTIQQA Thread - Queer Support!

I think the closest is "genderfluid?" For folks who are quite happy to be all over the map, gender-wise, and use different presentations at different times. (Which is a stronger form of "gender variant," I guess.) As opposed to identifying as genderqueer (somewhere in the middle)...

Re: unhatched fishes and turtle excluding devices

I think the thing that gets me about evo psych is that there's far less evidence for causal relationships than there is in, say, evolutionary biology? Like, in "evo bio," we tend to see evidence of a species with some traits earlier, and then time passes, and then we see examples of the sp...

Isn't implied by the second statement, though? "All B are C" implies the existence of at least one B, which gives you a C which isn't an A. If no examples of B exist, I'm not sure how that premise could be true. (ACTUALLY upon further reading apparently this is also a thing. Which once aga...

Honestly, it looks to me like this is an issue with ambiguous language -- it's not a question of whether it's possible to have all of something without having some of it, it's a question of whether you're using "some" as "at least one" or "some" as "at least one bu...

From what I understand, a viable breeding population is in the hundreds. By my count, if on your 20th birthday you knocked yourself up, and you remained fertile to 50, that's 40 pregnancies at 9 month intervals. So, to just start hitting the "hundreds" number, you'd need to carry 5 babies...
