I'd look at getting an SSD instead of an HD given the boot time is so amazing in addition to its other benefits. I really enjoy being able to boot my Eee in <30 seconds on a moments notice (an important feature to a netbook imo).

I did try this once but I ended up having to rename my character which I think threw some things off. I know there's a main folder that has the same name as your character and even though I renamed this, a lot of setting didn't go stick. Yeah, I tried the Ubuntu one. Didn't like it at all. I hated the 'Netbook' desktop display mode. There's an option to set it back to stock, but sometimes has issues dealing with various environment actions. Kubuntu's is a lot different, although I'm not certain I like it. I'm thinking of trying out...

I just installed vanilla Ubuntu on it. None of the netbook-centric OSes really jived with me (I even briefly played around with Moblin). With the new SSD, it's WAY faster than before (the stock SSD is very slow), and runs fine. Typing still sucks on it, though, so I only really use it on trips wher...
