Re: I need a book to rattle my worldview

I second or third the previous comments about: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance Gödel, Escher, Bach (this is long and difficult but 100% worth it) Catch 22 I would also like to ad this one that I am surprised is not present (perhaps it is too obvious and everyone has read it). A Brave New ...

Re: Battlestar Galactica (spoilers rampant like Durandal)

I've never been convinced that the military in BSG is subservient to the civilian government - So stealing the shared fuel ship seems traitorous in respect to the narrative imo. But semantics aside, I still thought it was a shitty move.

Re: Battlestar Galactica (spoilers rampant like Durandal)

Starbucks speech to Gaeta resonated with me. When your whole world of hope and survival crumbles and the most frakked up things imaginable happens to everyone , your hate-mongering and leg caps don't seem as important. As for Zarek, what he did just seems treasonous, I'm surprised Adama handled that...

Re: The Bebop's crew versus the Serenity's

Well, the Bebop can't go faster then light (other then using the gates that only go between planets in the solar system) and I'm pretty sure serenity could. So being that the bebop is armed and serenity isn't - Serenity would certainly jump away with no problem. But, the Bebop crew is relatively rut...

Re: Agile Processing? What is it?

Assuming you mean 'The Agile Process'. It's a software development methodology. It focuses on perpetual adaptation, as opposed to the waterfall method which plans everything up front. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agile_software_development http://agilemanifesto.org/ It has it's problems like anythin...

Re: Books you like that no one else has heard of

One book that I read in 6th(ish?) grade that has always stuck with me, but no one seems to remember is "Invitation to the Game" by Monica Hughes. It featured a group of students dumped into a city full of unemployed undesirables after graduation (because they were too dumb to qualify for j...

Re: Linux IDE for C/C++/PHP

I agree with the eclipse solution, if you want a good consistent / cross platform environment. But it's also good to learn the ins and out of the compiler tools. To have a good, solid understanding about what the IDE is doing 'behind the scenes'. This knowledge is pretty indispensable when you have ...

Re: House vs Dexter

In most scenarios I see Dexter losing. Most of his relationships are predicated on a pretty big lie (that he's not a sociopath) and he has impulse control problems which would be his eventual undoing. Especially in the case of House vs Dexter, House would have the upper hand. House would be able to ...
