Re: So do the mods still do the "rank text" bit?

I got rank text. It's just a space. It's hard to see... but, it's there!

AO: So... we agree that the original statement was ambiguous, we agree that it needed to be clarified. We agree that the clarified statement was unproblematic. We disagreed for a while about whether the original unclarified statement was problematic, but that's over (between us anyway... Mous is st...

Re: cream soda (split from Rant)

Care to elaborate on what you're saying? I thought I was being pretty clear in saying that there is some middle ground. One person's disadvantage only gives an advantage to their opponent, and it seems to me that we're not all against each other in life. :P EDIT: The more I read this link, the more...

Re: cream soda (split from Rant)

We're not against each other. We're trying to live. It's stupid to claim that straight people have an "advantage" over this opponent of ours (life). However, it is clear that gays have a much larger disadvantage. Well... that's some impressive cognitive dissonance! Go read poxic's privile...

Re: cream soda (split from Rant)

But if one group has a disadvantage, then surely the other group is at an advantage, by definition? If we were competing, sure. We're not against each other. We're trying to live. It's stupid to claim that straight people have an "advantage" over this opponent of ours (life). However, it ...

I'm not going to sit back and say "You're right." Because as far as I can tell, you aren't right, because you've said... not a whole lot. I've carefully explained my point of view, as well as I can. I have replied to your retaliations, as well as I can. We have repeated the same arguments...

To me it just seems like people are refusing to accept that the OP wasn't trying to insult anyone Where has anyone suggested that they were trying to insult anyone? People are constantly calling the OP "over-privileged" and ignorant (yes I'm aware he is, in reality, 'ignorant', but it's c...

Re: cream soda (split from Rant)

I thought it was pretty clear that the OP's point is pretty much wrong.

To me it just seems like people are refusing to accept that the OP wasn't trying to insult anyone, are they are insulting the OP for no good reason. (The title of this thread is pretty clear evidence of that.)

Re: cream soda (split from Rant)

The point in the original post has been proven wrong in many ways, but everyone is continuing to nitpick at connotations of words so that the original poster can not only be wrong, but also an asshole. This is stupid because, in doing so, everyone is also proving that they themselves are assholes.

Re: cream soda (split from Rant)

No, I'm saying that the term may have been used with full awareness of the connotations. Which "normal" apparently wasn't. Which is the goddamn problem. Because if I say "straight people are spoiled", then at least I'm owning up to what I said. I'm not saying something insulting...

Re: cream soda (split from Rant)

it's ironic that these same people are calling straights "over-privileged", when that word's connotation makes it synonymous with "spoiled". Which may have been the goal. Though incidentally, the usual term is to simply talk about straight (or male or white or class or whatever)...

Re: cream soda (split from Rant)

I'm just posting to point out the importance of taking note of the connotations of the words you're using. It's obvious that "natural" and "normal" can make people feel alienated, but it's ironic that these same people are calling straights "over-privileged", when that ...
