Re: "Literally" Discussion

Well there are two ways in which changes in usage occur. The first is an intentional deviation from the language to produce a certain effect. The second is a deviation that is made unintentionally due to lack of understanding of the words/phrases in question. Personally I see nothing wrong with the...

Re: Books You Believe Every Book Reader Should Read.

Okay, Faulkner may have a case, but Twain is only third. And I detest Hemingway. The others are all intermediate, though, yes. Best British authour is a different matter. Personally, just because you mentioned Twain, I am tempted to say Wilde. I'm rather fond of Yeats, but it is his poetry, not his ...

Considering that you ragged on everyone else that "We just don't get it" if we don't think Catcher in the Rye is the deepest book ever written. It is extremely overrated. Salinger wrote things that are much more accessible, much less pretentious, and much more engaging, and yet, he's reme...

Still, Steinbeck is Best American Author of All Time.

Regardless of what genre you read, Fahrenheit 451 should be compulsory. It shows how the world would be without books, and although it is now sixty years old, it's still important, and it always will be. Other than that, I think it depends on what you like to read. False. Nothing by Bradbury is Gos...
