Re: Assange arrested, in custody
Swedish consensual sex laws are a little umm... interesting. From what I understand, it's possible to retroactively withdraw consent contingent on condom usage, and the courts can even rule sex between informed and consenting adults to be rape under some circumstances (who would even bring that cha...

Is that school subsidized? I went to school for free (technically I made a bit of money) in the US, but I wouldn't count that. Also, isn't a kilo of rice ~1k pesos in Colombia? That should be enough to feed a normal size dog for a week, so even with school at 360k pesos a dog would only need ~50k p...

I'm curious... why this kind of security at airports? Hijacking is no longer viable as the passengers will react just as they did on United 93. And as for bombing? Why bother bombing a plane when you can kill more people with a far lower chance of getting caught beforehand by bombing a shopping mall...

You can give away your dogs, and skirting laws tends to be fairly easy although I imagine there are exceptions. Feeding them isn't really taxing either. Most people have enough disposable income to divert some of it to feeding an animal, there just won't be as much left over for other stuff. Hmm......

Re: How do we eliminate/minimize racism/sexism/<group>ism?
[quote="CorruptUser"Edit: I don't think we are communicating here. The law already allows for harsher punishment of crimes with heinous intentions. The sentencing guidelines for a Class B Felony might range from a minimum of 2 years in prison to a maximum of 15 years, the exact sentence to be determined in each individual case. If the person's intent was a horrible intent, then he could get a harsher sentence than if the person's intent was more benign. I fail to see what the additional benefit is for changing the crime to increase the possible sentence is when the law already allows for harsher sentencing of crimes with malicious intent.[/quote]

Yes. It does matter. The same way that it matters if you kill someone and no one remembers. Killing someone is a permanent very bad effect. Diseases potentially transferred, liberty removed. That's a bullshit argument. So if it was guaranteed that there were no diseases transferred it would be ok? ...

Why should society particularly penalise bias-motive crimes? Because society sees bigotry as a problem, and when people use that bigotry as part of their reasons for a crime, they are reinforcing that social ill. When actions are particularly problematic they attract more punishment. Society should...
