Re: 1103: "Nine"

I think I have the only microwave oven that makes sense. It has four buttons: two to adjust the power, start and stop. When you press start, it starts going for 10 seconds or so. When you press it again, it adds 20 seconds. It keeps doing this with exponentially longer times for each press. The time...

Re: 0908: "The Cloud"

This reminded me of something when I read it this morning, but I couldn't remember what. Suddenly I realised: it reminds me of my economy class two years ago. This is actually how our financial system works.

Re: 0870: "Advertising"

I find the first one is even more annoying without "or more". "Save up to 15%!" The only thing that says is that I'm guaranteed not to save more than 15%. How is that supposed to convince me?

Re: 0838 : "Incident"

I once tried this on a remote server I had an account on, to see if I could do some very trivial administrator tasks by myself, assuming everyone ignores those "incident reports". I got an angry e-mail from the system administrator telling me to stop doing that, or that he would suspend my...

Re: 0833: "Convincing"

It really is a different comic than the other two. The only remote connection between the three is the graphing of relationships, which is an activity so everyday and mundane that I'm surprised anyone even noticed that.

An electro remix of a disco version of a classical song. The best thing ever at parties.

Re: When will the next comet hit the earth? (Yes, it's math.)

Let's look carefully at the question that you asked: "When will the next comet hit the earth?" What if we are flipping a coin, and you suddenly ask me "When will you next get heads?" We can work that out. What's the chance that I get heads on the next flip? 1/2, of course. What'...

But I would say that, once they crash, they're gone, so their orbit doesn't matter any longer. You could of course know where they all are, and make predictions based on that. But if we don't know that, I would say they are random enough.

Re: When will the next comet hit the earth? (Yes, it's math.)

So it's 2108 right? Not 2058? They understand about the coins, but they don't see how it applies to comets. They're even using that as an argument against me, as the coins are independent, and tend to correct themselves (law of big numbers). So, they're saying, as 2108 would mean 200 years without c...

When will the next comet hit the earth? (Yes, it's math.)

I had a big discussion with my parents about this as they wouldn't believe me, but it just seems so obvious to me. Say that a "quite big" comet hits the earth on average every 100 years. The last one hit the earth in 1908. Knowing that the next one hasn't crashed yet until now (2008), when...

Re: "11th Grade" Discussion

I just finished my last year of high school in 3 months, studying on my own. I'll have 9 months for things like the third bar. :D I'm so happy I did that!
