Re: The effectiveness of evangalism

I think the original poster is referring to Evangalism in reference to 'door-to-door' or 'in your face on the street' examples rather than Evangalism as a whole (which basically includes anything involving converting non-believers however covert). Correct me if I am wrong, but having read the thread...

Re: Socialism and America

Government can never put resources to work in an efficient way. Private business has always been better. This is a standard flawed argument. You need to cite your sources proving that goverments can never put resources to work in an efficient way. Also, from here in New Zealand where we have public...

Re: Hypothetical rebuilding of society

I have to say this is a very interesting topic, one which I have been thinking about recently (been reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dies_the_Fire). Couple of things, firstly a lot of response seem to be extremely optimistic. Realistically almost everyone would die in the first 3-6 days. Fightin...

Re: "Locke and Demosthenes" Discussion

well, I could, in theory, seek out a pirated ebook version and read that in order to judge the book without regard to the man who wrote it, but any legal way of me reading the book moves money out of my pocket towards him. Given that my reading-money is kinda limited (what with having 2 kids and al...

Re: "Locke and Demosthenes" Discussion

The comic is a satirical view on the fact that the internet is a cesspool of crap essentially. Doesn't take much to figure this one out.

Also, to the poster who created an account to rant against Card, since when did an authors religious background matter; judge a book by its content etc...

What would be the practical application for chainmail? I would recommend contacting the local Medieval club.

Re: Getting fit tips for 14 year olds.

There is some funny (in my opinion) advice here. My question is do you want to get fit, bulk up, lose weight, get the 'beach body'? If weight lose is your only goal - good luck, unfortunately I am not a definative authority on this, as having been focused on gaining weight personally. If you just wa...

Re: The Official Running thread!

Well tried barefoot running at the track at University. Did one lap couple days ago for a trail warmup before hitting the gym. Discovered the next day that my lower calves were very sore! (the good, 'just worked my muscles sore') Considering I work out and the gym as well as playing indoor sport I w...

That is in NZD$, so 67,437.57 USD$, approx. The Nuclear waste idea sounds good, authentic as well, very impressive!

Re: Boy Thread: All Roads Lead To Back Bacon

I saw this in the paper this morning and felt compelled to post this here. Sadly most people do not appreciate this, apparently after building a regular house he decided he wanted a beached submarine look for the entertainment room. Looks amazing, reminded me so much of the 'ballpit room' re XKCD. h...

Re: New Zealand meet up

Erm...hello. I'm not sure where to post this but this thread might be my best bet... Is there anyone here who goes to Canterbury Uni and can tell me what the hub(s) is/are? This is quite possibly an incredibly noob-like question, but I'm asking it anyway. From what I can tell it's some kind of comp...

Re: The Official Running thread!

I have been researching online the benefits of running barefoot and have been quite taken with the idea. However most people I have spoken with seem to think its far better to run with shoes on. Personally having tried running with and without shoes for the last couple of days (nothing long mostly j...

Re: The "Dune" Thread -- Remember to wear your crysknife!

Christ, I pretend that there were no sequels to Dune period. I've read alot of the other books and tend to agree with this statement. Dune by itself was a self contained novel, the other books should be treated as an alternative universe 'What If' scenario. Having said that the books by Brian were ...

Re: One Hundred Push-ups Challenge

Going to try this tonight and see where I am, I do a small number of weights and occasionally pressups and don't weigh much for my height so should be able to do 30ish (hopefully). Edit: Okay managed to do 26 first time, which puts me onto week 3 third column straight away! Giving a days rest before...
