I'm not sure whether the exclusion zone around the Earth represents the other planets being driven away like oil with a fairy liquid drop at the centre, or that we are surrounded and they are closing in. I'm even less sure which idea scares me more. The real reason for the "exclusion zone"...

What I wonder, though, is why Gliese 581 wasn't included. It's 22 light-years away, in the right zone for this comic, plus it's got multiple planets, including three in or near the habitable zone.
