So I tried setting it slightly offset, to 89.300005, or 89.290005 instead of 89.3 (for instance) to test your idea, and didn't get the results I was looking for -- I half-expected it to be staticky WITH my hand there, and then become better once I let go and moved away -- but it didn't work on eithe...

InkL0sed; that'd be pretty awesome! It seems to me that a brainfuck-type language would be the easiest to use, but I haven't got any idea how to implement any of that in an existing C++ code... If you can figure it out, I'd be glad to use it!
