Re: BIKE 10,000 miles

Oh man, it's been so long since I posted. Since last posting I've had to replace my chain, cassette and then the bar inside the back wheel snapped so I had to replace that and I got some new front brakes. My crank arm has some play to it so I'll get it tightened next week. A guy from the spokes coun...

Picking ME electives - is it worth it?

Hey guys, I have a question that has been bothering me for a couple days. I'm a junior ME that transferred last semester (fall 13') to my current university and I've come to the point where I can see the end (haha). As in I want to setup the rest of my classes for the remaining 2 years. I've been th...

Re: BIKE 10,000 miles

13152 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 12 = 13,200

Just checked, my tires say:
26"x1.95"
And you?

Re: BIKE 10,000 miles

13149 + 3 = 13152 Yeah they may not be that expensive. The one I bought was $6 and if I could patch it, that would be $0.50 which is a fraction of the cost. I know it won't be as quick as changing the tubes but I'm in no race with other people when I bike. Another thing is if you don't check your ri...

13081 + 14 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 13149 Man a couple weeks ago it was a bit rough, 3 flats in a span of two weeks and one was this: 2013-10-10 14.44.33.jpg Yeah, I don't know how that happened. I usually patch my tires (its cheap! the university has a spokes council and they say buy a...

Wish I could help Nath but I can't even do a single one-armed push up and I don't know much about adding weight. :( one day, maybe... I'd try the backpack.

Re: BIKE 10,000 miles

took a pretty good fall in a corner. luckily i learned from my accident to be aware of such things, as soon as i felt the bike start sliding, rolled out of it, eventually landing on some grass. i took most of it to my shoulder, which oddly doesn't hurt because it DID contact concrete. guess im inde...

So I went home for a couple days and the day before I left as I arrived at my apartment my tire went flat very quietly. It was the strangest thing. Not too bummed about it, I thought let me ta...

And I quote: Ugh, seems my last post her was a year and a half ago... I have been cycling since then, quite a lot too, but somehow it doesn't feel right adding those in retroactively (for one, it would almost double the mileage of this thread...) So... starting today... (a well-organised cyclosporti...

Re: BIKE 10,000 miles

7369 + 8 + 8 + 18 = 7403 i messed my knee up good by going down hard in a corner, i was pushing about 20 mph, hit a puddle, bike slid out from under me, and all my body weight went into my knee cap. completely shattered everything in there, tore up tissue, couldn't walk for better part of a year. Re: BIKE 10,000 miles

7091+24+8+14+4=7141 So on Tuesday I went for a quick ride and as I was coming back about 5 ft from my house I turned too quickly and fell. Any tips as to what to do when falling on knee and elbow? Recommend staying off it for a while? Knee had swollen up a bit but it's mostly gone now. I just scrape...

56 miles in one day? Nice! I'm going to move in a couple weeks from a small rural town with many quiet roads to bike to a really big city... I'd like to get those kind of miles before I move.

Re: BIKE 10,000 miles

I'm pretty sure I can hit 90 rpm in my heaviest gear but it won't come close to 30 mph. I won't change my tires though, I like being able to ride in different terrains. Biggest local downhill I can get is about 100 ft in height and not at a steep angle. Haha, that's awesome. I was racing a tractor t...

Thanks! I figure this place may help me up my mile count. I think after every ride I will also do some pu...

Re: Rescue Boat to Save Little Child

Ah, didn't realize the thread went through. We figured it out, and this is what we came out with: Let's use brandbarth's picture (thanks for the time to do that!). We found the angle which the boat would have left at if the child was holding on to a rock. That angle would be tan^-1(200/1500)=7.595 d...

Rescue Boat to Save Little Child

Hi all, I need help to solve a homework question. I hope you guys won't mind and I just need a hint (or two). Question is: A child in danger of drowning in a river is being carried downstream by a current that flows uniformly with a speed of 2.0 m/s. The child is 200 m from the shore and 1500 m upst...
