Re: Book Spawn

Paper Aeroplane by Simon Armitage. I now slightly regret getting Collected Poems, but there's not too much overlap.

I have Labyrinths, Fictions and The Aleph, so I'm obviously not too worried about this.

James Tiptree Jr. If you like feminist science fiction, including arguably the first work of cyberpunk (even though The Girl a Who Was Plugged In predates the genre), then get Her Smoke Rose Up Forever. If Iain Banks never read Alice Sheldon, then I'd be a bit surprised.

Perdido Street Station by China Miéville. Looking to fill the Iain M. Banks (his book of poems is pretty good, but I'm not as interested in the Ken Macleod half of it) -sized hole in my bookshelves.

Also got The Wind-Up Girl by Paolo Bacigalup, for later.

Did you read the appendices in Consider Phlebas? I found the summary of the Idiran war more enjoyable than the actual book. I've read everything Iain M Banks up to Hydrogen Sonata. I think that plot is the most important aspect of a novel. If that were true, most novels would only be about ten pages long. (If you don't think this is true, imagine Borges summarising it). If you read the article, it looks like it took printing only a few of the examples of plagiarism in another interview to actually get him to talk about Ligotti.
