Re: LA Noire

It was worth the $5 or so I paid for it on Steam, for sure, but I definitely feel bad for folks who paid full price. I'm getting to the point where I feel anything more than $20 is way too much, especially since very few games have meaningful demos available. Nothing worse than paying $60 for a gam...

Re: X-Com: UFO Defense / UFO: Enemy Unknown

I'm not really that thrilled about EW. The new genetic tomfoolery and mech soldiers is a neat idea, and it kind of expands on Dr. Shen's comments about the aliens taking a path that might be considered "dark", and his concern that humanity may follow that path now that they're fiddling wit...

Re: Rogue Legacy

It's a hard, unforgiving game. It requires a great deal of platformer skill. I think my first three children ever made it to like... 2 rooms before dying. Once you learn the mobs and timing and what a wall turret is it gets a bit easier. Thankfully the first room in the game has like 5 objects to d...

Are there two games named Rogue Legacy or something? I run into a castle, jump around for a few seconds before dying, pick a new icon, Charon takes all my money, and then die again. It looks like there are things to buy, but I never get that kind of money, and then Charon takes it all again. None o...

Yeah, sorry, I gotta disagree with previous assessments. Dragon (especially dwarf dragon) is by far the best class. Infinite ranged attacks, and huge damage potential if you go with int-boosting equipment and upgrades. Safely kill pretty much every enemy in the game from a distance, dodge easily in...

Re: Fallout: New Vegas : It's Anti-Materiel. Not Material.

EVE spruces up energy weapons and makes them a bit more interesting, but I agree that pretty much every skill but Guns feels kind of anemic. Supposedly Guns using so many different types of ammo is the drawback or balancing factor for the skill, but considering you can easily break down any ammo and...

Well, I've got the Anti-Materiel rifle now, so I don't really need it anymore. I picked it up immediately after clearing the quarry and killing the Deathclaw Mother and Alpha Male. I also realized I needed AP ammo in my hunting rifle after reading the stats on the Deathclaw and the learning about t...

There's a part in the Long Road DLC where you're going down an elevator and being attacked from all sides, which I definitely couldn't have survived without using VATS to turn and shoot the ones behind me that I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. I wish I could say how good or not good EU4 is, but I'd have to know how to play it, first. The tutorials don't really do a good job of teaching the player anything, and the UI is... incomprehensible, at best. Tiny text and buttons, enormous tooltips... you'd think a studio as successful as Paradox ...

Humans have some tech advantages too. The aliens never get rockets, and only Mutons use grenades, so humans are a lot better at destroying cover. Some robotic enemies also get grenades. The player's main advantage is not having to check to see if there are multiple targets to hit before using a grenade or rocket.

Well, if it's just the two of them, you *can* take potshots. They don't have the Covering Fire fire-at-those-who-fire thingie. But it's not in the player's favor to risk that, though. Aliens are ahead of the player in tech, and the computer losing a sectoid matters less than the player losing a vet...

Re: X-Com: UFO Defense / UFO: Enemy Unknown

I dunno, as mentioned above I think that could devolve into constant turtling. It would, because reaction shots are kind of an overpowered mechanic - sectoids have an advantage over troopers, but they're still really squishy and whoever gets the reaction shot off is probably gonna win, because neit...

I'm reasonably certain it's panic. It never happens under normal circumstances, only when I've killed a bunch of his squadmates. Alien just wanders out from cover and doesn't shoot. Any alien, or just sectoids? I've seen sectoids do a lot of weird/stupid things, but never "higher" aliens.

You do have a degree of control: Veteran soldiers and soldiers with a greater mental stat are less likely to panic. If you can't afford a panic, don't send in rookies. Yes, it is a catch-22.
