Re: 1296: "Git Commit"

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that these commit messages are in reverse order? I've only ever seen a commit tree like this in gitk, though, so maybe other tools do it like this comic?

Re: 1285: "Third Way"

I first heard the monospaced-typewriter-font story a couple years back, and I switched to single space as an experiment. I've never looked back. I still occasionally find code comments that I wrote before the switch, and if I'm already there to edit the code, I always "fix" the double spac...

Re: 1193: Externalities

Hah. After working for Adobe a few years back, I was surprised at how mean-spiritedly poignant this comic was. Adobe does have loads of software that should have been retired a decade ago, considering what I know about the deep bowels of the code base. Then I found out this comic was dynamically gen...

Re: 1163: "Debugger"

This is obviously a very self-centered question, since I work at Caltech and went to this conference, but I wonder if Randall was inspired to make this comic by this weekend's TEDx Caltech: The Brain conference? One of the presenters brought up this very point, and that it may ultimately be impossib...

cause he smokes weed. thats the joke. Can't tell if you're trolling, or providing actual information. Just in case it's the second, what does Jello have to do with weed? Wow, I suspect you've never smoked weed, or have amazing self-control around desserts in particular and food in general. Right on...

Re: 1069: "Alphabet"

As always when English orthography comes up, the Zompist is quite relevant here. It's helpful to know the current rules before trying to make new ones. And without knowing those current rules, you can waste time trying to fix what isn't broken. This was a fascinating read (though I admit I skimmed ...

Re: 1069: "Alphabet"

I feel like I'm missing the joke here. It would be funnier if heartbeat was an anagram of alphabet. Or if it would be except for a c/k difference... I believe the joke is based on the pick-up line "If I could rearrange the alphabet, I'd put u and I together." As for the ideas people are p...

hed*. *I had to misspell it because the forum is intentionally screwing up our communications. That's pretty clever. With it: head. Without it: neck. At least it doesn’t try to replace assassinate by “buttbuttinate”. ;) Yeah, when I first saw that my post apparently said "hit the nail on...

Re: 1028: "Communication"

I think the alt text on this comic was easily the most ironic I've ever seen, because I have NO idea what the comic was trying to communicate. Does that make me a poor listener? Reading phlip's spoiler makes it much clearer, but I think Adacore really hit the nail on the hed*. *I had to misspell it ...

This comic makes a really good point. I almost never bother to actually look at the references. The mere existence of one makes me assume truth.

Does anyone else get a Family Guy vibe from this? It distinctly reminds me of Stewie, before the writers turned him gay.

I'm probably just dumb, but where's the joke in this comic? I simply don't see any sort of punchline whatsoever.

Oh I totally love BHG, though I prefer the "class-hole" moniker that he gave himself.

This comic is made even greater by the fact that BHG mentioned this act quite some time ago.

Just quoting this for truth. It's my favorite film line of all time because it's so very, sadly true.
