Re: Velvet Underground

What makes them so great? I've listened to them before, and nothing really grabbed me.

So many excellent bands have cited them as an influence, but I don't get it. Can y'all explain it to me?

Re: Favorite Song

The Best Ever Death Metal Band In Denton by The Mountain Goats. The lyrics mean so much to me.

When I was younger (pre-tMG), it was Jumper by Third Eye Blind.

Re: Jazz, for a beginner.

Jelly Roll Morton was one of the original jazz artists, and he played piano.

Re: Flawed Narrators

Nick Carraway in The Great Gatsby is fantastic. His opinions shape the novel, while we try to figure what's really happened.

Re: I like obscure rap/hiphop...do you?

Does anyone here like Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip? I can't get Angles out of my head, especially Thou Shalt Always Kill.

I also dig Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, Flobots, Immortal Technique, Eminem (he's got a good flow, sorry) and the Jazz Liberatorz.
