Re: 0841: "Audiophiles"

Twigshusband seems to be under the mistaken impression that different waveforms are different in nature or that the Nyquist-Shannon theorem only applies to signals of a single frequency. Any signal that is not a pure sine wave has multiple frequencies (of sinusoids) in it. So to say that a signal ra...

Re: 0841: "Audiophiles"

It's misleading to say that Nyquist applies to other waveforms because the frequency cut-off applies to the sine waves that make up those waveforms. You cannot reconstruct a sawtooth wave with a period of 1 second from a 2Hz signal.

Re: 0843: "Misconceptions"

The quote pyramid has already been done. Take that sort of thing to Forum Games, please.

EDIT: I just re-read this and I decided I should apologize for playing forum police.

Just remember that science also says that you are nothing more than a vat of chemicals and that there is no ultimate purpose to your life. Also remember that science says that there is no such thing as free will that your actions are a combination of your environment and your genetic programming. R...

I can only assume that the working definition of "optimal" in the comic is maximizing the likelihood of winning with the assumption that all of your opponent's possible moves are equally likely. Or, equivalently, giving your opponent as many ways to screw up as possible (which fits well wi...

Re: Making the world a weirder place

Cool. I had thought of leaving burned CDs in various places, but with some music I had made myself. Mysterious anonymous music! Best. Idea. Ever. Second. Some of my favorite CDs have been random found mixes. I used to have one that a friend bought at a Lost and Found sale that was pretty cool. Then...

Re: "Science Valentine" Discussion

Valentines Day is the most depressing holiday anyway. I'd bet that more people break up on that day than any other. I don't know about that, but consider the following: Approximate number of Google results (Safesearch on, no omitted results displayed): 31,100 - "we got engaged on valentine's d...

I am a bit curious why the full version links to an HTML page with nothing but an embedded image, instead of directly to the image. O.o This prevents Firefox from being able to scale it to the window size. Right-click image*, select "View Image" *The large version that doesn't scale in Fi...

Heehee. The Kevin Bacon part was a nice hint for us non-nerds. On a semi-related note, my Bacon Number is five, through Ben Burtt . That website's BS. It won't link Sam Neill to Jeff Goldblum. wts?!! Works for me. Apparently, you just don't know what you're doing. Edit: Ironically, it seems I was t...

Re: "Crime Scene" Discussion

Oh, now I find myself wishing TMBG had done even a single song for Square One. Wondering what glories could have been... Wonder no more: check it out ! You can find most of the videos on Youtube. "One Everything" is possibly my favorite. Incidentally, I never watched Square One. Don't kno...
