Re: Wealth taxation

To a limited degree. Saving hundreds of thousands of dollars or more is not for peace of mind; it's hoarding. Using the resources of others isn't self-reliance, regardless of whether you take it early and hold onto it or get it over a more extended period of time. Saving up long-term, say, for old a...

Re: Breaking Up the United States

Yeah, I've seen you try to take the discussion down that path, but I think that's a cop-out to avoid addressing a specific issue. It's a classic debate tactic to talk about larger socio-political or philosophic issues of the whole to move the goalposts and avoid talking about a specific issue at ha...

Re: How would you change the U.S. tax system?

That there are loopholes only means we should close the loopholes, not throw away a good thing entirely. If someone is hide-money-in-an-overseas-trust wealthy, they're conspicuous enough to audit. Amending the tax code to have the tax collectors figure out and/or estimate the offshore wealth and the...

Re: Wealth taxation

I am opposed to such a tax because it would hit me disproportionately. I have a high net worth because I don't spend money. I don't like anything that punishes me for that. I don't know how much money you have, but if it's really high, I'd say you're an excellent target for this sort of tax. Just h...

No sales tax. No income tax below the poverty line. No wealth tax below, say, $300,000. Progressive income and wealth tax with a continuous function after that. 100% estate tax past, say, $300,000.
