Re: 0863: "Major in the Universe"

I read Outliers and wasn't impressed. Lots of bold claims and misunderstood and/or misapplied evidence. Gladwell truly seems to be a fellow who refuses (or can't be bothered) to gain more than rudimentary outline knowledge of any subject he broaches. After reading Outliers I read some pretty damning...

Re: Recommend one artist

Interesting stuff here (dumbfoundead was neat). My choice, Lissie: When I'm Alone Pretty generic but what a lovely voice. /edit: been struggling a long time, finally figured out the (older) vocalist she somewhat reminds me of: Bonnie Raitt. Dunno if people here would know her but that's definitely i...

Re: Song Identification!

The rules state "no links to copyrighted materials". How about something that'd surely qualify as fair use, though? I have a five-second, 81KB mp3 clip from a podcast that I can't bloody ID; can I post it up? /edit: it's a music bumper. It's surely copyrighted, but as I said, it's a five-s...

Re: Worthwhile Games Podcasts

Thanks for the suggestions... I feared there wasn't much out there in the vein of the ol' Gamasutra Podcast. It's a shame, really.

ALWW is nice. Sad that it's so neglected. :(

Worthwhile Games Podcasts

Does anybody recall the Tom Kim-produced Gamasutra Podcast? It was a heavily industry-centric show with interviews of developers, localizers, writers, artists, publishers, etc. They're all still hosted here, apparently. Is there anything like this currently being produced? I've asked this same quest...

Re: What is okay to mock? (Spun off from "Changing attitudes..."

Right, right; well said. All restrictions are arbitrary! There will always be differences of opinion wrt what is "right" or "wrong" to do, be it mockery or murder (or anything else). This doesn't mean rationally examining and valuating behavioral restrictions is a fruitless endea...

Re: What is okay to mock? (Spun off from "Changing attitudes..."

I think anything is ok to mock. [..] But nothing is ok to discriminate against. This. However, discrimination isn't inherently bad. You should really say unjustly discriminate or something like that. There are plenty of good kinds of discrimination: we discriminate between people based on how much ...

Re: Is it right to kill?

Hello everyone! Jjarro, great posts! I wish my thoughts were as trenchant as yours! I did bristle at your mention of "stopping power", but I daresay that's a topic for another thread (or maybe another forum). While I appreciate the sentiment that life should never be taken, it is not a val...
