Re: Mental Help

Since no one else has mentioned it... How are you sleeping? I've personally found that my mental agility is impacted a lot by how well rested I am. And ironically, when I'm sleeping poorly and mentally fuzzy I don't seem to realize that I'm operating at less than 100%. It's not until I start sleepi...

Re: Mental Help

As far as changes in my lifestyle go: -moved into an apartment with my girlfriend of 2.5 years (is occasionally hard to deal with but has mostly been a positive change, I think) -got a kitten (he's almost fully grown now) -quit smoking marijuana (I don't tend to smoke while in school as it tends to ...

Mental Help

Please bear with me as I'm not really sure how coherent this is going to be: First off I suppose a bit of background info is in order: I'm in my 3rd year of my undergraduate degree in physics and while I do not consider myself to be particularly quick or intelligent I'd like to think that I'm not im...

Lectures on Modern Physics

Anyone know of any good online lecture videos that cover modern physics (Blackbody radiation, quantum mechanics, etc)?

Last I checked MIT open courseware doesn't have anything and all of the other videos I've found tend to be at an extremely rudimentary level with little to no math.

Slackware Install question

I'm going to be installing Slackware however in going through the installation guide I noticed the bit at section 3.4.8.3 ( http://www.slackbook.org/html/book.html#INSTALLATION ) regarding a modem. As far as I know my motherboard has an onboard LAN interface but no onboard modem. I'm using an Asus P...

Re: New core i7 rig temp question

I'm not sure about the newer i7s but what I've read is that the older one's specifically the 920 950 and 975 run hot compared to most CPUs

mine hasn't stepped above 47C ever and seeing as 90C is where you need to be worried I think you'll be fine.

GRUB Error 15

Okay so a bit of background first: I'm installing Arch Linux for the first time after using Fedora for a year or so and being disappointed by how bloated it is. anyway the Arch Install went perfectly until it came time to reboot. Upon rebooting GRUB loaded up fine but upon selecting Arch Linux I got...

Re: Headphone specs

How about a pair that doesn't break after a year? I've been buying decent ($20-$40) headphones, only to have all of them degrade dramatically. Wires become un-insulated, microphones droop and loll about, static increases, if I push on the wrong bit the sound shifts from left to right and back, etc....

Re: Drag problem in Physics

This is generally for fast moving regularly shaped objects (eg: not your cardboard thing) Fnet = mg - (DpAv^2)/2 where: m = mass g = acceleration due to gravity D = the drag coefficient (you'll need to figure out your rig's terminal velocity and solve for this) A = the cross sectional area of the ob...

Re: Greatest Bands Ever

_Slipknot_ I just love their masks. I know that may seem superficial, but their masks are awesome. Besides that I think they are a very good heavy metal band (something I rarely enjoy) and that there music is just excellent when you're moshing (I haven't done it much, but it kicks ass). My favourit...

Re: Apple Laptops

Clock speeds are literally not relevant for measuring the power of a processor unless you compare it to the same type of processor, otherwise clock speed means nothing. I don't follow. Are you arguing something, or, like, what? And do you have signatures turned off? I just thought I'd point that ou...

Re: Public school vs Private school vs Home school

School dosen't make any difference to your intelligence at all, if you're intelligent then you're intelligent. All school does is tell you things which you can look up online anyway. I say the whole schooling system should be replaced by the internet, if people bully you then you can just block the...

Dual Boot issues

Okay I've got Windows XP and Ubuntu installed on separate partitions on a 1tb HDD. I installed Ubuntu first and whenever I booted (prior to installing windows) I got GRUB for 10 seconds or so, I didn't do anything with it because I only had Ubuntu installed. Now that I've installed Windows XP, whene...
