"She'll be a geek 'til the day she dies. I bet if we snapped her open then she'd have E=mc² instead of a spine, and all the constants instead of organs."

Cereal killer - An alternative to milk?

So you lovely forumers, here's an interesting question (well, not really :P) I want to get back into eating cereal again, but I really cannot stand the taste of milk. I don't mind eating cereal dry but it seems more like a snack when I do that. So I was wondering, what could I put on my cereal inste...

Re: Piano - why is it so difficult?

I've got a keyboard for the weekend and have been trying to learn a song I love, and I can get the parts seperately and almost perfect. Then, like you, I try to bring the left hand in. But what I've found is, if I close my eyes I can co-ordinate them better. Probably because I'm listening, rather th...

i have a problem with silverfish... and blooming brown spots that find their way into the book pages because of dampness... @@ does anyone, perchance, know how to prevent either of them? Re: The 50 book challenge

Some of my friends are reading Of Mice and Men for their English lit exam in a few weeks. We got stuck with Lord of the flies which I started re-reading for revision/one of my books. I've already gotten through 1 book today: Burned by Ellen Hopkins. I read it a couple of weeks ago but thought I'd gi...

Ha, my physics teacher is an XKCD fan (After I introduced him to it 8) ) and so for my homework the other day I printed off a relevant comic and the alt text and handed it in, it was the 'Spirit' comic. Me: Sir can you check my homework? I don't think I did I right :\ *Teacher takes homework and ope...

The 50 book challenge

So fellow forumers, I've just found out about the 50 book challenge and I've had a quick search, nothin' about it on here. The challenge is pretty simple, read 50 books in a year, any book more than 100 pages counts. You may read the same book twice, it counts as 2 books, and if you've started a boo...

Re: Rattle my worldview - Has a book ever changed your life?

In terms of fiction (Although they are all based on true stories and events): Ellen Hopkins' books. They're aimed at people about my age, and have given me a very different view on a lot of people, particularly those who are troubled. I've been very closed off in the past, and so have been unable to...

I would so do that. I remember at my junior school we had a giant checkers board where you had to move all the pieces like that. I'd love a huge monopoly though

Lord of the flies. Unless you want to manage to put yourself into a deep sleep, don't do it. Sure it sounds interesting kids going savage and killing each other but... Oh god the horror :| It gets very repetitive, in both language and a little in the story line. There's too much to focus on, or at t...

You see, my immediate response to the title was "Well if there is no heart to give it a constant blood supply, then I'd say no" But upon reading some of the replies, I'm pretty curious actually. I hate to say this, but in response to the OP, I'm afraid we may never know for sure. People ma...

So, after some recent events on lending a book out and receiving it back in a rather poor state, I've been wondering How much do you guys care about your books? Quantum theory cannot hurt you by Marcus Chown is a good, relaxing read. Pretty thin book too.

Still has all the info in there that you need without frying your brain, althought it may not be specific enough for what you want it's still worth a read.

I generally fall asleep to the soundtrack to Crayon Physics Deluxe. Its so light and relaxing, there's no lyrics either so you don't concentrate on them. You just sort of... flow with the music.

Quorn (Vegetarian food thats made to taste like meat) gives me really bad bloating.
Orange cheese makes me feel like I'm going to be sick along with porridge and things that contain a lot of milk. Even tea.
