Re: Sprechen Sie Deutsch bitte! [German practice]

ach, danke schön! immer denke ich, dass ich richtig bin, also ist es mir gut, positive Kritik zu kriegen!

obwohl ich noch keinen Roman gelesen habe, liebe ich Poesie zu lesen, meistens die Gedichte von Goethe!

Re: Sprechen Sie Deutsch bitte! [German practice]

Re: "off of"

I don't really have a problem with either "off of" or "off," really. I usually say "off of," actually, because that's the way I heard it growing up and that's how it sticks. (And, in part, because I mumble. A lot. :? )

Re: "Avoidance" Discussion

Am I the only one concerned that the chick is a complete passive aggressive bitch? IMHO, we're probably supposed to think the guy was a complete jerk on his first call, which is why she gets back at him on subsequent calls. Hence the "It worked the first time" bit of dialogue. What I got ...

Re: Song Lyrics

My favorite band that has always been able to inspire me to live my life and appreciate what's out there is a band called Backseat Goodbye. It's only one guy, Chad Sugg, but I think he's an amazing songwriter and his songs help me get through the day. To pick only a few lyrics, here's some of my fav...

Re: How much sleep do you usually get?

I'm a sleep fiend. I usually sleep 10-12 hours if I don't have to wake up in the morning. Then again, maybe I should stop being awake at 3h30, like it is right now...

Re: XKCD: Proper pronunciation found!

Actually whenever I look at "XKCD" I try to pronounce it because I like a challenge, and it usually comes out as some weird static-like noise. I guess I can transcribe it as ekskssd, using the C with the S-like sound like in receive. That's an awfully annoying way to say it, so I don't, bu...

Re: Curious about areas of linguistics you are involved in.

I'm a foreign language major in the area of German and study some French, so I think it's safe to say that I'm mostly interested in comparing languages' grammar and syntax. I also love to learn the history of languages; I read a part of a book on the history of the English language and did a report ...

Re: Language practice threads [new: Hungarian, Urdu]

I speak fluent American English as a first language (w00t), but I'm a fervent learner of the German language. I'm actually going to college to have a major in German language. I wouldn't say that I'm fluent, but I'm more than just advanced. I also took French in high school (only to French 3 because...

Re: "Avoidance" Discussion

I used to try to do this same prank years ago. The only problem was, I could never get my voice to sound like a woman's.
