Speaking as someone who's never programmed in his life, though being a massive geek in many other ways, this comic is totally lost on me and ranks up on my "worst xkcd ever" list.

Then again the only sorting I ever do on a computer are the default Excel sorts.

In the UK the font used on number (license) plates is even bolder and squarer than in the US. However, to overcome this exact issue letters that look like numbers are not used (I, O, Q), therefore whenever you see a 1 or 0 it is the numerical version. The only slight issue happens with B and 8.

Aye, my microwave has even done away with the 1 and 5 seconds, it only has buttons for 10s, 1m, 10m. To be honest I've never used the 10m button, have never known anything needing longer than 4 minutes in the microwave in a single blast.

I never got on with pandora, it's algorithms didn't tie in with what i looked for in music and it would always take me off on the wrong tangent. So i was one of the few in the UK who was not sad when it became US only.
