Re: What themes dominate the bulk of your dreams?

Zombies. Lots and lots of soon to be dead zombies. Oddly enough, my girlfriend dreams about zombies a lot as well. That's crazy, zombies are my only recurring theme in dreams too! I'm always killing them, in a variety of strange settings. I'd say at least a third of the dreams I remember involve ki...

Re: Cannabis use and fitness

As an aside, I wonder how many people who some cannabis smoke just cannabis. No cigarettes, no cigars, no hooka (ie. no tobacco in any form)? And if one starts to smoke solely cannabis, what is the likelihood that they will eventually also end up smoking tobacco products (perhaps mixed with cannabi...

Re: Cannabis use and fitness

thanks for all the information! I'm pretty much sitting where I was before on this issue (not that that's a problem...I feel like I can more adequately back up my position now). I hadn't really felt that moderate cannabis smoking hurt my performance in any way, and certainly less than drinking. Even...

Cannabis use and fitness

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the effects of cannabis use (smoked or otherwise) on physical fitness. I checked pubmed, and may have missed some studies due to my poor searching skills - I apologise if that is the case. I've heard the usual "well obviously it's bad to inhale s...

Re: Crossfit thread (AKA, Oh balls, i'm sore!)

I had done pull-ups before, just never kipping. I had a bit of trouble keeping momentum between reps, but it seems like a fun exercise. I liked the workout a lot, and I like the principles behind crossfit, but not so much the whole WOD thing so I think I might just pick a good workout (probably one ...

Re: Crossfit thread (AKA, Oh balls, i'm sore!)

I just tried a crossfit workout today for the hell of it. I did Fran, because it looked like fun. It took me 17 min though, is this normal for a first time? I hadn`t done either of the exercises before so my technique was probably sketchy. I see all these videos of people doing it in 3 min  I...

If you're training to sprint a whole 200, I wouldn't say that cardio is really your concern. But if you were to do cardio, I'd recommend something intense like tabatas . What should be my concern then? And what are tabatas? Duckshirt did a much better job of explaining it than I could, but what I m...

I stand with the water hitting my left shoulder. I mostly just stand there enjoying the hot water when I actually shower at home (I'm usually at the pool). When wetting/rinsing my hair, I face away and lean back into it.

Deadlifted 225 lbs for 5. Was originally just trying to lift it once, because it looks cool having two plates, but then I just kept going. Not a huge weight, but pretty good for a skinny bastard like me. There is something immensely satisfying about deadlifting that other lifts can't provide. Just ...

What are these health benefits of big muscles? A study suggests that more muscular men have worse immune systems. If by health benefits, you mean getting laid more often, then I suppose you're right. that article also calls "increased appetite" a "great disadvantage" of being mu...

xkcd was definetly a part of my transition from a humanities guy to a sciences guy. As a child I had always been fascinated with science, but when I got to high school a combination of poor science curriculum/teachers and good humanities teachers made me begin to prefer Social Studies and English.
