Re: Random natterings

Somewhere between a post I made back in June 2014 and now, a string of unlikely events came with an unexpected outcome. Shot for the moon, ended up with a star on a pedestal. Turns out the official measurement was 425cm; larger than I thought (Absolute max size on design was 424cm) and what they ant...

Re: Random natterings

Thanks, it's super super unexpected; it didn't register as a possibility. When designing I thought "Wow thats big", then I got comfortable with its size and built it in parts, but the parts were bigger than I thought. The biggest surprise was when I finally constructed it fully; it took al...

2016 definitely had it's ups and downs, but 2017 is starting off really well. Turns out I'm inadvertently getting a Guinness world record to my name for my first cosplay . They contacted me, saying they believe it's the largest of it's type and fast-tracked me through the application. Going to be va...

in particular LEDs rated at a total of 78A @5v (actual tested is ~65A), you need some beefy wiring setup(for a costume). Beefy as in cables as thick as fingers to transfer 65A? Or the sheer number of LEDs, switches and controller board(s) that need wires? The 65A load was based off testing a few st...

I really should have went to one of the talks in London, I've been reading XKCD for less than a month short of an entire decade (from ~nov 2006) and I could have gotten to either of the locations within ~35mins. Worn out 2 xkcd tshirts in that time from wearing them while training (>500km running). ...

Re: ANGRY NATTERINGS

I actually quite like The Daily Telegraph in the UK, it's definitely one of the better ones. It's just that the bulk of the "newspaper" sales are tabloids that are hugely biased and mostly serving some other agenda. The free papers (Most likely the Metro) is primarily there to make money. ...

Thankfully I'm not paying for the shipping, the conventions are, but when the shipping costs more than everything else combined, they're a little more hesitant. So far it's 4 international locations, 2 must go by Air, which turns out to be really fking expensive (£2k+ round trip). Not sure train/pla...

I decided to accept every guest invite to conventions with my cosplay that I can, but it turns out that my costume is as ridiculously impractical to ship as it is to wear. Having to palletize a costume seems rather absurd to me.

I'm with Whizbang on this one. It should appear obvious to us now that many things attributed to God have turned out to be something we later understand to be something else. On top of that, it should be pretty clear that we can't trust our own senses. You always have to trust them to some degree, b...

Probably not straight away. Given the fact that so many people are getting it as a free upgrade, I'd imagine a lot of problems/issues will get found and (hopefully) resolved fairly quickly. Having worked mostly with C++11 stuff lately in VisualStudio, coding stuff for an Arduino is painfully basic. I know it's not really anywhere near the same league, but rather disappointing from a coding standpoint given how large the Arduino community has gotten.
