This post reminds me of Brian Greene's "The Elegant Universe"...I remember reading that black holes couldn't exist without gravitons, i.e. the "messengers" of gravity

How about creating a small forum like this? That would give you great exposure to several PHP concepts ($_SESSION, $_COOKIES) along with PHP-MySQL integration to store member information/posts.

That being said, you are pretty much guaranteed a high-paying job after college, well worth it. This can depend massively and where you are and what type of engineering you're doing. Be prepared to work, HARD! Engineering is no joke?
