Interesting! It would be great if we could dispose of n=6, and going via SAT is a reasonable idea. I haven’t proved it, but it seems plausible that it’s safe to remove edges of weight n. There are no known minimal superpermutations that use these. If removing them works, it would be worth trying to ...

Doesn't finding a short length-5 sequence automatically imply the existence of shorter sequences of length 6 and up?
