On the other hand, if you treat the sound wave as an overpressure wave, then that's about 36,000 times the overpressure required to blow limbs offs (10 psi). So again, expect minor casualties.

Given its total SWL was only 200 dB, an SIL of 282 dB would sound roughly 158,489,319 times louder than the inside of the Saturn V's F1 engine as it was taking off. Expect minor casualties.

Well a composite particle's being less stable than its components doesn't mean it can't exist, or that some of them can't survive longer than normal. I think ∆ ++ 's lifetime merely implies an upper bound on the time for hadronization to take place. 3 quarks formed a hadron in under 5.0 x 10 -24 sec...

The mean lifetime of the top quark is predicted by the Standard Model to be 5 x 10 -25 s. On the other hand, the mean lifetime of the ∆ ++ is about 5 x 10 -24 s, which is apparently enough time to hadronize, and ∆ ++ decays to a proton & pion. So the mean top quark would need to live at most ano...

I'm disappointed in you xkcd forum regulars. That no one here has mentioned/is aware that the weak and residual strong forces (to first order and neglecting charge screening) follow Yukawa potentials just like EM and gravity (to first order and neglecting charge screening) is saddening.

So 20kW / (935 MHz * h) ≈≈ 3*10^28 photons, 20kW / c ≈≈ 67µN. That's the total output of the magnetron. It's about the order of what NASA reported. But all those photons clearly aren't escaping to infinity.
