Re: Trump presidency

Taxi drivers and chauffeurs are more likely to die from violence on the job than police (though police are more likely to die in transportation incidents).

Re: 0936: "Password Strength"

Randall's are all unique, too, because if two passwords were the same they wouldn't be two passwords.

And if memorization isn't an issue, just use randomly generated gibberish, as it will be much more secure than a list of discrete words.

Yeah, it doesn't mean the same thing as being in contact with a physical object that's 2.7K, but that doesn't make it meaningless.

Re: 0936: "Password Strength"

If you rearrange the four words you get, and if there were objectively easiest to remember arrangement of any four words on the list (or if the attacker somehow knew enough about you to know which one you'd pick), it reduces the number of possibilities by a factor of 24. Adding another word to the m...

Re: 0936: "Password Strength"

↶ Right now I'm trying to understand if uniqueness is meaningful in this regime. Uniqueness of what? Randall's password doesn't work based on individual characters, but on words chosen randomly from a list. Those words have to be unique (i.e. each appearing only once on the list), but the letters i...

Re: Use of mythological referents

Could be. What I called nonsense was your claim that accessible language is self-defeating. This particular bit of inaccessibility may be fine, depending on the context and how much other new material being presented at the same time. But it's still potentially inaccessible, and that has to be somet...

I must have missed the part where the OP said the educational content was also intended to teach Greek mythology.

In any case, you don't generally introduce information by assuming students already know it.

Re: Use of mythological referents

If it's such a trivial point, then why do you think it's so important to keep the inaccessible reference? Also, the only nonsense here is your claim that accessible language is a self-defeating goal. The whole point of education is to build up knowledge, and you can't do that effectively if you act ...

Re: 0936: "Password Strength"

Making the password a loop and starting at a random point adds a factor of 25 to the number of possibilities. Adding one random letter to the end multiplies it by 26 and is probably easier to remember. Adding one more random word from the list multiplies it by 2,000. There are lots of ways to make a...

And my argument is that you're completely missing the point of the method. That doesn't make the password weak...

That password can be attacked on its parity. Randall may have already calculated this in. Yes, he did. Double letters don't affect any of the math in the comic.
