I'm also American, and I believe Eebster is as well (could be wrong on that one). I, too, have never heard anyone pronounce it as a /z/, not even as a joke.

Catch = match/batch/latch.

People where I live don't use the word catsup, but I would pronounce it phonetically.

Cauliflower, lentils, tomatoes, celery, garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander, cayenne, sage, oregano, turmeric, singe parsley, and a cinnamon stick. The last item was very much a What the Hell decision, and the aroma is a tad unusual but it's quite delicious.

For people who differentiate "Mary" and "marry," how do you do it?

I can't tell if I do or not. I think my mouth opens the most for Mary, less for marry, and least for merry, but I could just be fucking with myself and I don't know if I'd do that in conversation.
