Re: 1446: "Landing"

What do you suppose the purpose of the zooming out is, spacewhales aside? I'm hoping for a future picture in the style of the famous Cassini photograph with the earth as a distant pixel in the background, the comet in the foreground, and a giant flock of spacewhales heading for the former. xkcd1446...

Re: English as She Is Spoke [English practice]

Your English seems pretty good! Thanks! I'm glad that all those years of learning English in school left, at least, some mark. Permanently describes a continuous state – so an object could be permanently attached to another object, or a person could be permanently angry. If you do a particular acti...

Re: English as She Is Spoke [English practice]

I hope it's okay to dig up this thread. I recently registered on your board and I really enjoy being here. However, I've felt a bit insecure and just stayed in one thread until now because when I write a posting I permanently ask myself if a native English speaker would talk like that, or use a part...

Re: 1446: "Landing"

Good news, everyone! I just read an article on the website of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) where one of their scientists responsible for monitoring Philae said the following. (Fortunately they publish bilingual announcements so I don't have to translate it myself.) Source Waiting for news of Ph...

Re: 1446: "Landing"

Nice story, Seti. It still ended a bit sad, though. :P Thanks! Yeah, I know. Somehow I couldn't help it. I started my draft with the famous 'Blade Runner' quote because I thought it would be funny if they would talk about things like the 'Tannhauser gate' and so forth, but then realized that these ...

Re: 1446: "Landing"

BlitzGirl: Thank you! Girl-With-A-Math-Fetish: Thank you, too! I'm glad that I didn't make too many mistakes. I find it quite difficult to write in English because it's very hard, if not impossible, to learn that certain feeling for a foreign language that prevents you from constantly scratching you...

Re: 1446: "Landing"

Hello everybody! On wednesday I stumbled upon this thread when I was asking myself why the xkcd page only showed a blank screen (somehow the automatic update didn't work on my browser). When I found out that it was a comic about the Rosetta mission, which had almost slipped my mind, I was instantly ...
