Re: 1979: "History"

Token Brit here. If I were trying to invent a hokey name for a fictional 19th century American I'd immediately dismiss "Roscoe Conkling" as too on the nose. That is all.

Re: 1956: ‘Unification’

I was a bit disappointed that the West/East Germany union isn't shown merging into the EU. Of course, the timeline is a bit different from the others, since West Germany was in the EU before East Germany threw off their Soviet masters. So it's not clear how to draw the merging lines. Just wait unti...

Re: 1864: "City Nicknames"

There's a real Bird City in Kansas, but you can also nominate your city to be a Bird City USA which seems to be a wildlife conservancy thing.

As of now, Googling "people of land and sky" returns this thread and nothing else.

Re: 1762: "Moving Boxes"

Perhaps I've been watching too much Only Connect: my instinct on seeing an image like this is that there's some cryptic pattern to the box labels, usually involving the letters in the words and not the words themselves. Words ending with A-M on the left, N-Z on the right, or the number of unique vow...

Re: 1759: "British Map"

From the "Other" list, I assumed Cabinetry was a reference to Coventry as it's somewhere near the right location. The actual Coventry is at South Norwessex, Cabinetry on the map appears to label somewhere between Oswestry and Wrexham, two names at least as weird as some of the fictional na...

Re: 1572: "xkcd Survey"

Feel free to challenge yourselves to correct it without the help of a dictionary (but if you do reply, please spoiler-tag your answer). :) A lot of entrepreneurs definitely employ an unnecessary, unacceptable bureaucracy, particularly in occurrences where embarrassment or conscience liquify or supe...
