Re: The Caves of Janxrathra

Update: So far one individual has explored and mapped out the entire dungeon but has not yet solved the final puzzle; so first to the end is still up for grabs. Good luck!

Re: The Caves of Janxrathra

Well Commodore, I don't know what to tell you. Many folks have downloaded the game on PC's and Mac's and aren't having this problem. Perhaps try deleting everything and re-downloading. I know that if you have two versions of the game sitting on your computer it can cause the problem you're talking a...

Cognitive Bias Codex With Definitions

A while back, a friend and I were researching and discussing cognitive biases and we thought it would be great to have a handy go-to reference. A quick survey of the internet found this page on Wikipedia which had John Manoogian's awesome Codex on the page. I liked John's codex but wanted more than ...

Re: The Caves of Janxrathra

Also, the game won't run from inside a downloaded zipped directory. All files must be uncompressed for the game to function properly.

Re: The Caves of Janxrathra

Make sure that you keep all the downloaded files in one directory (doesn't matter where, can even be on a flash drive) and run the Caves.exe file from that directory. Then make sure you save your games to the default "Saves" subdirectory. This should solve your problem. There are no case s...

Re: The Caves of Janxrathra

I probably should have put in a screen shot or two. A picture is worth a thousand words. Here's what things look like outside of the Caves with an amusingly named party.

Here's what things look like way down deep with a badass party against some killer monsters.

Re: The Caves of Janxrathra

Okay, maybe that first post was a bit much at once. I'm just excited that it's really done and that it came out with such fidelity to what I had originally conceptualized. TL;DR Old school D&D game patterned after the game Oubliette. Philosophical multi-level multi-threaded story line. Two VERY ...

The Caves of Janxrathra

I wrote an email to Douglas Hofstadter (yes THE Douglas Hofstadter) explaining what I'd done in making 'The Caves.' No one could have been more surprised than I was when he wrote back to me inside of 10 minutes. I'm not including his response since that could be misconstrued as an endorsement, and h...

Re: sick realization: you have negative dollars

I recommend "The Money Masters" by Bill Still (available on YouTube). It is a long listen Could you summarize? It would help to determine whether it's worth the time. Jose Quizatzhaderac got it bang on. It's definitely worth the time to listen, but not necessarily to watch. In other words...

Re: Kerbal Space Program

I knew that this was a truly great game when my 12 year-old mentioned at supper one evening aspects of orbital mechanics that went into her first orbital flight. Wish I'd had this when I was a kid. The base game or the expansion? I tried a new career after updating all my mods, and it was so weird ...

Re: sick realization: you have negative dollars

If anyone is still coming by this thread, I recommend "The Money Masters" by Bill Still (available on YouTube). It is a long listen, and the video isn't that great, but it is the best explanation by far of how we have come to pay for the privilege of borrowing our own currency.

Re: Recommend Your Favorite Podcasts

Hand-down my favourite podcast is "The Waking Up" podcast with Sam Harris. He is rational to a fault and leans a little too much to the left for me, but I thoroughly enjoy the discussions and very much appreciate the resurrection of the lost art of conversation. I agree with Sam's premise ...
