I absolutely love QotSA. One of my favorite bands from this decade. Songs for the Deaf and Rated R are, like, the best albums ever. I confess, though, that I have yet to hear any of their other material. Henceforth, I declare this topic to be QotSA discussion zone. Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, marijua...

Freezepop, in my mind, embodies the very principles of synth-pop - simple, geekily romantic love songs. If you haven't heard it already, check out Future Future Future Perfect. It is, like, old Freezepop taken to the max.

Unless it's a band I really like, I tend to just stand towards the back and listen to the music. I go to a good number of local concerts, where I'm naturally unfamiliar with the material, so I just stand there and listen.

Re: Bass Necessary?

Bassists add a lot of power to guitar work. Even a bassist just playing root notes of the guitar chords can make the band sound more whole. That being said, there's plenty of bands that don't have a bassist. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the White Stripes, and the others already mentioned don't have one. The...

Re: I Need A New Guitar + It Needs to Sound Like "WHOA!"

For a 100-200 dollar guitar, I'd have to again suggest rondomusic.com. Try their Douglas Shadow models - the Les Paul is an excellent model for hard rock, and as I understand it, that's a pretty good clone for the money. Amp-wise, you could try finding a used Palomino v8 or another 5-watt tube amp. ...

The GuitarPort is nice, but I would personally still buy a physical amp. It's nice because if you ever get to the level where you start gigging, even a 15-watt amp can be set up with a microphone so that it's loud enough. Also, it's faster to start up than a USB interface, which is nice for practici...

Out of those, the Strat-style one (the one that comes in the pack) is the most versatile. Be warned, though, that that's probably the cheapest guitar on Rondo. That's not to say that it's not a good guitar, but the other two are higher quality. The SEG1 is a pretty standard metal guitar. With distor...

First off: http://www.rondomusic.com I am not personally familiar with their products, but I have literally never read a bad review of their guitars. Want to get a synthesizer

So as I understand it, all you need for a synth setup is a MIDI controller and a softsynth on your computer. Is this correct, or do I need something else? Also:

a. Would the MIDI Out line on a keyboard work as a MIDI controller?
b. What's a good, free softsynth for Windows or Linux?

I do this too, often to artists that based their career around catering to the sort of people that don't sing along to songs (like Nirvana - say, "In Bloom," which openly mocks people who sing along).
