Re: 1187: "Aspect Ratio"

It’s like wearing a sign that says “I’m a moron.”. Similar to having a clock blinking at 00:00, still having the protective foil from the factory on their electronic devices . . . Protective foil stays on until it falls off naturally! (OK, so I only do it to annoy people. Tho, you wouldn't think su...

Re: 1095: "Crazy Straws"

You can make fun of everything, as long as it's something I don't care about. You can do whatever you want, as long as it's something I approve of. You can have whatever opinion you want, as long as it's the same as mine. I think I might make that part of the constitution when I take over Norway and...

Funny, but pi = exactly three? That's irrational!

Huh. All my engineer friends keep insisting pi = 10, but from my years of studying astronomy I learned pi = whatever you want.

(Purposely ignoring the horrible pun.)

Re: 1065: "Shoes"

Congradulations! You've unlocked this comic's "Secret Reference": Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs xD There are plenty of casual barefoot style shoes out there. Merrell has an entire line of barefoot-ish shoes that look like shoes, not mutant gecko feet. Other companies do as well, but t...

Re: 1065: "Shoes"

Running is evil! Humans evolved to sit hunch-backed in front of small fluorescent objects. (Hmm... Sounds like a form of worship to me.) Anyways! Figured I'd ask the experts here. Does anyone have any good "barefoot" shoes for casual use? Some work-places have dress codes etc, and other ti...

Re: 1053: “Ten Thousand”

Commonly known as a "permyriad" (less commonly as a "basis point".) I think you got your 'commonly' and 'less commonly' mixed up. Check out the Google ngrams tool, that graphs the incidence words in the Google Books corpus. Basis points appear to be hundreds of times more common...

Re: 1053: “Ten Thousand”

basis point is actually pretty common when you get into finance where changes or differences in interest rates and profit margins are often expressed in basis points. (working in financial reporting, I hear basis points quite frequently, including the cost of our reporting services - basis points o...

Re: 1053: “Ten Thousand”

Also, what is the "‱ sign" that bitwiseshiftleft refers to? I believe it's the mathematical notation for "part per ten thousand" Commonly known as a "permyriad" (less commonly as a "basis point".) ‰ is the "per mil" or "permille". One part...

Re: "The Sun" Discussion

I know Sunshine has been pointed out several times already, but I just want to emphasize how god-awesome that movie is! It beats the core any time, anywhere, any ANY! It's _that_ bad <3
