Re: Help!

The problem is that no one else in my class is at all geeky. These things need to be pretty obvious or easy to explain. Unfortunately I don't own very many cookbooks, but if you have any recipes you can recommend from the ones you mentioned that would be great!

Re: Help!

I suppose I could make a romulan ale and cheese soup, even if it can't be blue.

Help!

I have to develop a menu as a class project that fits my personality. I want to make mine geeky; based on things geeks eat (ramen, mountain dew, etc), and that play on geek culture (ex: hoth chocolate). I don't actually have to make anything, but I need to be able to develop approximate recipes. I n...

Re: What did you eat today?

Dinner was some really awesome stir-fry, which led to my discovery of seitan... and I must say, I'm a fan.

Re: Really good ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING food

Meatball spagwich. It's kind of like taking a bowl of spaghetti and eating it between slices of garlic bread, except I usually make mine with lightly toasted plain bread. If not for the meatballs and cheese it'd be all carbs, and it's rather messy to eat, but it's quite tasty.

Re: High School Pranks

My brother's class filled the quad with sand and had a beach day. Someone brought a volleyball net, a bunch of people brought collapsible beach chairs, and I'm pretty sure there was a goat involved. They all went to class in beachwear and sundresses and such. It was awesome, and it took the groundsk...

Re: Steamers

My mom's used one of those since before I can remember. The only features I recall her ever caring about were a timer and a size sufficient to steam asparagus. I never had any issue with the flavor or texture of the veggies she made.

Re: What did you eat today?

Went and made myself some pb&j, but I've realized there's no milk in the house. My stubborn nature insists that I eat this sandwich, but caution gives me pause... this could turn into a predicament.

Re: Ice Cream.

My favorites are mascarpone and avocado-mango fizzy ice cream. Unfortunately I can't really buy those anywhere (except maybe the negative zone) so I don't have them often.

Jealous of your food decorating skillz. I'd love to see your food photographed with natural light and nice table arrangements and all that stuff. Thanks! I have my first advanced pastry course this quarter so hopefully the pictures should be getting more exciting; I just wish I was a better photogr...

Re: Healthy Snack Foods

If you're wanting a healthier cookie, look up some recipes for ginger snaps. Some recipes are reasonably low-cal, and I find that with the spiced flavor I'm satisfied with fewer cookies.

Re: Fruits and Veggies: Where to go from here?

True, most veggies will freeze well... you just have to dry them or spread them out while they freeze or you'll end up with a solid (and difficult to portion) block of vegetable.

Re: Fruits and Veggies: Where to go from here?

I haven't, but only because I need practice dicing onions and they're much cheaper/easier to store fresh. The main reason I started buying frozen veggies was because I can't eat the fresh ones fast enough and end up wasting money. Onions keep just fine, so I never bothered.

Re: Logical fallacies/douchebaggery in commercials.

Wal-Mart advertises their products as "wholesome," which legally defined means "fit for human consumption." Such high standards... yet another reason why I don't shop there.

Re: Food pr0n (picture-heavy)

Wow, I don't know how they taste but they look very good! I will argue that the top two are nasty because they are custards, but that's debatable. The last cake had no flavoring whatsoever and was iced with (more or less) tinted crisco, since it was a practice cake so... yeah, probably not so tasty...

Re: Worst Food Decisions, or WHY DID I EAT THAT URGRGRBLEH

Some unidentified jalapeno candy goo. It's not that I mind jalapenos or anything, but this stuff was awful.

Oh, and the worst pizza I've ever had was somewhere in Manhattan. Go figure.

*ahem* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmjLqddPqZQ But seriously... I keep a variety of frozen vegetables on hand. I buy different ones whenever my current supply runs out, though my favorites are probably broccoli and spinach. You can buy IQF spinach, which means that you can portion out how much yo...

Re: Broccoli

I buy my broccoli in two-pound increments, and I live by myself. I always have some in the freezer. I managed to ignite a mini-war on facebook when I posted as my status that broccoli, in my belief, is better than beer... I had no idea so many of my friends would side with broccoli, but the debate d...
