Re: Never built a computer before - lots of questions

Alright, I think I understand things a lot better now, thanks everyone for taking the time to type all that up. I've made a full list of parts with your suggestions, what do you think? The total is $1105 after the rebates and buying the processor for $194 at Micro Center. This just leaves me to buy ...

Never built a computer before - lots of questions

Background: my laptop just died; I need a new computer. I'm going with a desktop as I didn't really use the portability of a laptop. My goal is a decent gaming computer, but it doesn't have to play every latest game on max settings. I do want to be able to play Starcraft II, Diablo III, and Skyrim, ...

I just reseated the memory, and tried putting in each memory chip individually - same long short short beeps each time. My video card is an nvidia quadro fx 570m. And I've had some overheating problems in the past, maybe that caused the video card or something else to die? EDIT: Just found this on t...

Laptop not booting

Hey guys, I have a Lenovo t61p thinkpad, and it recently started refusing to boot up. When I press the power button it gives 1 long beep and 2 short beeps, which the internet says is a video problem. I tried removing all power (including the backup battery) for ~10 minutes to hopefully reset somethi...

This is a song from Donnie Darko, heard through his headphones during a conversation (in the director's cut). It does not matter if we run out of jobs. This would actually be a great thing. People tend to think "more jobs = good", while in fact what they mean is "more production = good". We aren't able to have our food and houses and clothes and iStuff because we 'have jobs', but because...

In addition to the other advice, don't try to argue that you were only going 20 or so. Even though you were, the cop will remember you said 30, and if you explain yourself it'll just look like you're lying. Too late to fix it.

So why can't those 10% find jobs? Also, minimum wage. Bureaucrats have decided (in their infinite wisdom) that if I want to sell my free time to a company at $5 per hour, and that company wants to buy my time, I should not be allowed to. So unless I can find a company that values my work at $8.25 p...

Kac-Moody Algebras

Wikipedia Looking at the construction of a Kac-Moody algebra, it seems like they should all be finite dimensional - a basis for the underlying vector space consists of e_1,\dots,e_n,f_1,\dots,f_n,h_1,\dots,h_{2n-r} where h_1,\dots,h_{2n-r} is a basis for \bf h . No, you can't. The median and mean tell you where the data is centered, while the standard deviation tells you how far spread out it is. So say there was a 100 point test that 9 people took and the average and mean were a 50/100. It could be that all nine got a 50 and the standard deviation is 0, or...
