Re: 2057: "Internal Monologues"

Now, if I can only get a Botanist to tell me how the trees overcome the vacuum limit on siphoning water - we can't draw water higher than about 33 feet by applying vacuum at the top of a column, and somehow trees manage to get the water up to the top leaves of giant Redwoods. I assume capillary act...

Re: 1643: "Degrees"

To be fair, I've heard it argued that round numbers in metric are pretty good ballpark figures for how humans perceive temperatures too: 0 = freezing 10 = cold 20 = comfortable 30 = hot 40 = way too hot Translated for Australians: 0 = nope 10 = too cold, too warm for beer 20 = a bit chilly 30 = ple...

Every 8 months.
_____annual = times per year.
_____ennial = years per occurrence.

You're partly correct. Sesqui- meaning a period of 1.5 units, annual meaning year. So 1.5 years :D

New Horizons is going 14 km/s. 1 yard is about 1 m, and a football field is 100 yd long. So New Horizons travels the length of a football field in 100 m / 14000 m/s, so something more than 5 ms. 60 mph, or 100 km/h, is a typical highway speed, certainly not what I would call speeding without any co...

I think this is so terribly sad. Surely the whole point of a 'Mystery Movie' night is to take pot luck, to end up seeing a movie you might not normally have selected, and perhaps you'll enjoy it or appreciate it or perhaps you won't but either way you will have learnt something. To walk out when yo...
