Other great games (although not quite as legendary) released in 1998 were Unreal, Rainbow Six, Tribes, Resident Evil 2, Pokemon and Warhammer: Dark Omen (a personal favorite of mine). Um, how is Pokemon not as legendary? I mean, is there anybody who doesn't at least have a clue about what Pokemon i...

Re: Pausing a program

You shouldn't really need to pause your program like that anyway. You should run the application from the command line. If you're not using the command line, then any decent IDE (eg. Visual Studio, Code::Blocks) will automatically spawn a console window pause the application when it ends. Also, if ...

Re: Matching any number in an array?

Resizing an array is still a pain in Java, though... you still have to go through the whole create-new-array-and-copy-in-data deal... and there isn't even a realloc to help you (though you can roll your own pretty quickly with System.arrayCopy). You just don't need to worry about deleting the old o...

Re: Matching any number in an array?

I haven't done it recently in Java, but does it let you resize arrays easily? Coming from a mostly C/C++ oriented background, it's something to avoid where possible (inefficient -and- just plain ugly). While not entirely beautiful and easy, Java still does arrays a lot better than C++. For one thin...

Re: Matching any number in an array?

Why do you need the overhead of actually removing the cards you've drawn from the array though? Couldn't you just store an offset into the array, and draw n cards from the offset, then increment it by n? Then when you reach the end of the deck, you can just reshuffle, and reset your offset to 0. No...

Re: Matching any number in an array?

What you have doesn't work at all, it's not surprising you can't get the rest of it. If you're doing this in Java, you should also probably be having class functions doing most of this for you. Java is all about the objects, not the procedures individually. I assume your using int to represent cards...
