Re: 1113: "Killed In Action"

Definitely a reference to the trope. I think there is also a reference to the unexpected hanging paradox http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unexpected_hanging_paradox . I think the best solution (from a logic perspective) would just be to randomly retire people at the end of each day, so that way no one i...

Re: 1047: "Approximations"

The error in the first Protip is pretty big though. If only the fractions were added instead of subtracted. I am going to use the radius of the earth one from now on - just to confuse anyone reading my work.

Who the hell is Malcolm Gladwell? Also, what is it with Americans and your "majors"? In Britain, we go to university to just do one subject. I'm in my first year, and I'm taking courses in maths, maths, maths, maths, maths, maths, maths and mathematical physics. I know someone who is on a...

Change the angular velocity of the masses, such that you reach resonance. Use this frequency to determine the to...

Re: "Brain Worms" Discussion

I have never had the driving or falling teeth dream, but I have had a few others with may be common. One was about the next day (which was surprisingly dull), and one where I was dead and was doing ghostly things. Oh, and the horror survival one.

Re: "Collatz Conjecture" Discussion

What I find interesting is that is doesn't work when you treble the value and subtract 1, as opposed to adding. Just look at 7 for example.
