Re: Mind Blowing Algorithms

I'd always thought that palindrome finding had to be quadratic time, but you can do it in linear: http://stackoverflow.com/a/10468753/2256231 using Manacher's algorithm.

The symmetry stuff makes some sense after thinking about it, but making it linear time, that's crazy.

Re: 1179: "ISO 8601"

This has been said before, but not enough people are saying it. YYYY[-/]MM[-/]DD makes the most sense when writing things down, because the reason we write the date is so that when we read it later, we know when something happened. And reading is fast enough that it doesn't really matter what standa...

Also, just recently I couldn't be arsed to find a PDF viewer that had autoscrolling, so I wipped up a small script to do it for me. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything useful f...

As far as I know that doesn't have anything to do with the particular server, and restarting minecraft usually fixes the problem. The server does authenticate you but because restarting minecraft fixes it, and retrying doesn't help, it's probably the client.

Yeah, after reading this thread, I was kind of thinking that my passwords weren't secure enough. And now I'm wondering why I thought they were in the first place, especially given that recent comic. Come to think of it that is probably where I got the idea in the first place, without realizing it! D...

Re: Complicated questions about cryptanalysis

My password generation method lately is to think of two relatively long words one around 7-9 and the other 10+. How secure is this? If the password contains an English word, but it's 14 letters long, is that considered insecure?

Not entirely unrelated, but I've had the capacitor from a small digital camera's flash discharge into me. Nice snap noise. Well, the disinfecting agent that is in those wipes probably does kill HIV, and there are probably some people who are price conscious and really paranoid about HIV, whether or not they have reason to be, and they will buy these wipes. About Trelawney, there is a bit of a problem with that reasoning.
