Re: Town Builds its own Internet Network

For most of us, having internet become a utility is only ever going to be a dream. My country started on that path, but then political shifts stopped it. First, a big telco controlled it all: infrastructure, international pipes, and retail. Government ordered them to split those up into three separa...

Re: Trump presidency

Seems to just be there to delay passing laws even longer. That was literally the reasoning behind it. Basically, the founding fathers were really cynical about democracy and most of the decisions they made were about trying to protect the system from irrational voters, and so at every turn they fou...

Re: Trump presidency

Democrats in the House passed another bill to re-open parts of the government, but like past attempts, it is expected to fail in the Republican-led Senate. The new stopgap bill proposes to re-open the government through 28 February. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to take up any ...

I see the massive ophthalmology bill I got for eye surgery after rubbing my eyes too much as a kid.

Seriously, don't do it. The temporary joy isn't worth the horrid astigmatism later in life.

Boasting, typically about something online. (Refers to virtual penis measuring.) In my line of work, the the typical form is "shot peening". Hammer peening or ball peening sometimes come up as alternatives. I have never specced e-peening, though. You don't hang around enough gaming forums.

Re: Why, around the whole internet, are moderators such dicks?

There are some forum packages out there - at least a decade, decade and a half ago - that when run on.... let's say more economical hardware.... will start having loading issues when the number of posts hit a certain amount or the amount of text in a thread and so on, which is why many forums start...

Oh cool, I can get away with replying to an 8 year old post here. See - the number of posts started in which someone says in the post "I found an old thread, but didn't want to necro it" even thought the rules here clearly state "Necro the thread." This is one of the few places a...

Re: 2020: "Negative Results"

I'm probably confusing twilight princess with skyward sword. I spent a lot of time in BOTW running around aimlessly with no idea where to go, and killing easy enemies then suddenly getting oneshot by stuff. It could have been a great game but they deviated from some of the Zelda norms a bit too much.

Now the operator has incentives not to place callers on hold. They have an incentive to get the issue sorted out then and there, or call them back when they can. This will incentivize them to minimise the duration they put people on hold. I don't think call center workers have much control over how long any particular person is on hold...
