Re: Regional Dialect and Idiolect Oddities (pronunciation)

I never heard of anyone pronounce creek like "crick" until I was an adult. It took me a long time to realize it was meant to be the same word. But, apparently, in some regions they think it sounds laughable to pronounce it like it's spelled, which is how everyone says it around here.

Re: Gaming fleeting thoughts

A few pages ago we mentioned The Swapper. I bought it a few months ago, but I eventually got stuck. Either I missed out on learning some technique, or that game is really hard. I thought I was okay at puzzle games, since I completed Antichamber and The Talos Principle without any guides (although I ...

Re: Great Steam Deals (And other Online Distribution Systems)

Nah, I just consider three DLC packages to be a lot. I didn't notice one was free. Still, I thought it seemed noteworthy to mention that a free game has DLC that isn't free. I consider that to not be getting the full game, so it's like a disclaimer that the game is being given away for free, but to ...

Take a look at this pricing bullshit:

I went for a visit to a doctor. In the waiting room, I had to wait for a long time. Eventually, a man in a white shirt summoned me to see the do...

Do you pronounce "bazaar" and "bizarre" the same way? I do. /bəzɑɹ/. Dictionaries say that "bizarre" is /bɪzɑɹ/. That's the weak vowel merger. Typically, American English merges most (though not all) cases of unstressed [ɪ] into [ǝ], whereas British English tends to ke...

Where I work, everyone reads measurements in thousands of an inch. I think it was Final Fantasy III that had the warriors of darkness as the saviors of a previous age, who saved the world from the Light which was growing out of control. I've never heard of maxing out a 401k account too early in a year. How can I find out about this? Is there a max limit to how much I can contribute in a year? If I can find out what that max limit is, I can just do the math from there based on my income, I suppose.
