Re: the books of Jim Butcher

Jim Butcher is currently my #1 favorite author!

And Harry Dresden is my favorite noir detective! :D

Yes, I would recommend The Dresden Files to fans of the urban fantasy genre.

I finished Ghost Story months ago. Now I am eagerly waiting for Cold Days to come out. Waiting...waiting...waiting...

Re: Crime/thrillers - any other fans?

If you like the crime/thriller genre, I highly recommend Lee Child. And yes, I have read lots of crime/thriller novels, although I don't really try to remember the names of authors. Here's how my system work. If I know I am going to have a quiet weekend at work, I pay a visit to the library and borr...

Facebook deletes Bizarre Magazine's accounts

Brands on Facebook: a cautionary tale September 30, 2010 by Sharon O'Dea Yesterday, staff at Bizarre Magazine found their Facebook page had disappeared. Not only that, but the personal accounts of all of the magazine’s editorial staff had disappeared too. This marked the latest twist in an ongoing b...

To me, it reads like a Onion.com article. I can't bring myself to believe that.

6-year-old Girl Gets Shaolin Monk As Bodyguard

I am posting this one here because this is one of those WTF? news. A Shaolin monk. One who was formally crowned 'Iron Man' and can break stones with his head. Yes, apparently 'Iron Man' is a formal title there. While it is true that China is facing a spate of violent incidents at schools lately, I s...

Re: 7-Year-Old Girl Shot in Police Raid

erm... Place more emphasis on unarmed combat tactics or the use of non-lethal weapons (such as batons and tasers)? Not in all cases involving murder suspects obviously, but if you chuck a freaking stun grenade through the window AFTER neighbors warned you of children in the house and even pointed ou...

Re: Child reprimanded for eating noodles differently

I have a question... So how do Canadians eat their noodles in Canada? Why was it considered 'wrong' for someone to eat noodles with a fork and spoon? Was he supposed to use chopsticks? I lived in USA and UK and all along, I ate my noodles with forks (and spoons for the soup) and nobody said anything...

Mall Cop Diary: In(s)ane Ramblings Of A Mall Cop

Hi Fellows! I am currently writing a book about my work experience as a mall cop, and during a feedback session with some friends, they raised the idea of promoting my book through a public blog. I thought it was a good idea then so I set up a blog and starting adding content. I did some tweaks to m...

Re: Woman Gets Life In Prison For Making Boy Touch Breasts

Actually kulantan, I wasn't misinterpreting 'mandatory sentence' as 'too much leeway'. I was merely saying that in cases such as this, there are too many grey areas where the judges or police or D.As could interpret as they like. There are certainly many questions here. Such as what constitutes a ch...

Woman Gets Life In Prison For Making Boy Touch Breasts

So I just read a news article about this woman in Elko County, Neveda who got a life sentence for making a 13 year old boy touch her breasts. A life sentence for making a 13 year old boy touch her breasts? Yes, I agree that those who would abuse children should get jail time. But life in prison just...

Re: BULLIES ;_;

I don't think ignoring bullies help the situation. If we are talking about real bullies who are hard up for cash and hitting you for your lunch money, then how on earth would ignoring them help the situation? I suggest kicking up a big fuss. Involve everyone. The school authorities and parents shoul...

Re: Really good ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING food

Someone mentioned durians. Well I ate some Durian cakes just last month. Somewhere during the baking process, much of the pungent smell was removed so it wasn't really yucky. When I was in London, I also ate eel pies frequently. Most of my friends in America thought that was DISGUSTING. Like you guy...

Just being realistic here. If we eat cows, why not have aliens who eat us?

Also, my friend reminded me of this Twilight Zone episode called 'To Serve Men'.

Re: Wikipedia Accused by Larry Sanger of Hosting Child Porn

I doubt the motives of that Larry Sanger dude. If he were really reporting a crime, is there a need to highlight his own commercial projects? The whole thing doesn't look so much like a crime report but more like an advertisement for Larry Sanger himself and a personal attack against his ex-colleague.

I would recommend any books by Enid Blyton.

I understand that bookshops in USA do not usually stock her books, but there's always Amazon.com

My childhood would have been empty without Enid Blyton.

Thank you all for your views. Especially skeptical scientist for bringing up the point that the whole affair could have been a misunderstanding and a 'non-story' as he put it. However, I would also like to point out that while the apology and correction for the ministry were acknowledged by many, th...

Wit, humour that involves philosophy?

Well, that sounds like a Terry Pratchett novel! Check out his Discworld series.

With a side order of extra large onion rings. And lots of alcohol.

Discrimination Against Deaf American Teacher

I post here today to discuss and gather opinions about this most horrendous and blatant act of discrimination against a hearing-impaired teacher. Here's a brief summary of the case: Singapore is hosting an international education conference in September and has invited teachers from all over the wor...
