Re: 1708: "Dehydration"

Things I was told back when I was in the military, where the cure for every ailment is 800mg tablets of Motrin and more hydration. If you're a physician or dietitian (or nutritionist. I always forget which one is a pseudoscience and can't be arsed to google it) you might know better, but this gets t...

From everything I've read they used HW2 mechanics universally across both games. I think to allow for multiplayer across both games. Other complaints I've seen online include formations no longer mattering, the removal of the aggressive/defensive/neutral option, and some seriously half assed AI. I s...

I've never been able to find a definitive source, but most of the responses to questions on Steam about Cataclysm say it's not included because the source code for the game no longer exists.

Re: Your video game ideas

I've had this idea rattling around in my head for a while. Started writing it down a few weeks ago, and just finished this morning. It's intended to be a sort of cross between Planetside 2 and Destiny, with some EVE-Online mixed in for good measure. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CvThOk1fH_Zyd-...

Re: Game of Thrones: The TV Show (novelisation coming soon)

Which is kinda disappointing. I maintained hope for a while that there was no magic in ASoIaF. I love the idea of a story that appears fantastical turning out to be science fiction. Like here's this medieval setting with knights and dragons and crazy seasons which is actually just a human colony on ...

I'm not profiling the rep, I'm quoting the rep. If this was the first instance I'd ever heard of white privilege I would of course be skeptical. It's not, though. So the fact that a guy who makes a living finding employment for people has noticed that people with anglo names get hired more, while no...

I guess there's an official LotV custom map and people are starting to play it. I'm sure there are a few replays on Youtube of pro players trying out the new units with hilarious results. I've found one. Ravager+Swarmhost looks like an amazing combo.

I wonder if the reduced mineral patch size is expected to accompany an increase in bases per map. This would make the games potentially last about as long, but would accomplish the goal of having more places to defend and thus more engagements overall.

What's crazy is that for the show-watchers much of this evidence doesn't exist. The phrase "Promise me, Ned" never gets used once in the duration of the show. In fact I don't think the Tower of Joy ever gets mentioned. Just that Lyanna was kidnapped and raped and died before they c...

That theory is so popular among fans that it's generally accepted as factual. I have a pet theory that the reason TWoW is taking so long is that GRRM is rewriting the story so that the theory will end up being wrong.

I don't know why, but I find this kind of thing fascinating. First, we get a 100% hearsay accusation. "Friend of a friend". No particular reason to doubt it, but no reason to believe it's true, either. Then the accused posts about how innocent they are, phrasing it in a way that suggests u...

I wonder if the Korea situation could be considered to count. The DPRK doesn't have nukes, but they have enough conventional weapons to level Seoul before we could stop them so it works much the same way in practice.

More than once, in fact.

That said, MAD also kept the cold war cold. If we didn't have nukes, there's a very real chance that any of the many conflicts during the cold war could have turned into a full scale shooting war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact and millions would have died.
