Re: Questions For The World

My partner and I just got back from a trip to Japan and one of the things that we did that was a bit more unusual was going to visit a swordsmith. He explained (via a translator) the various stages of making a sword and showed us swords in some of the stages. He also gave us a demonstration of heati...

That if the average mortgage is at 8% or less, the average savings account is going to be 1% or less because otherwise the bank won't be able to keep the lights on if they pay out any higher. ... well, keep the lights on AND make their shareholders happy. Re: Questions For The World

So, in Australia, if you have a map of the world, the Pacific Ocean is in the middle (conveniently placing Australia near the middle of the map). However, everyone else seems to have the Atlantic Ocean/Europe/Africa in the middle (if a quick Google Image search is anything to go by). So, my question...

Re: Sterile Transit - why doesn't the US have it?

I'd guess it's because the US security checks are much stricter than what they have abroad. People might even have more fluids in their hand baggage than allowed. In terms of just visa requirements, after you count in the all the waivers for various nationalities, I'm not convinced the US is that m...

The actual process of moving parts between bikes isn't really that difficult, but there are a bunch of things you have to make sure of, and it does require a couple of specialised tools. The two frames need to use the same kind of headset/stem arrangement, the same width bottom bracket and the same ...

Re: Getting a new bike, bit of advice?

Bike sizing is pretty inconsistent, so it's not really possible to be sure just from the size. Generally, for mountain bikes, 16" would be a small, 20" a large and you can work out the rest from there. If you're shorter than about 5'5" you probably want a small, over 6" a large.....

That's why you should always carry a spare tube/tyre levers/pump ;-) Unless you ride where I ride, and you should carry two spare tubes. But how does a person get a flat from a half inch bump? Was it a pinch flat? And back on topic - 26 + 1681.7 = 1707.7, still on the back of a tandem unfortunately....

Re: Getting a new bike, bit of advice?

So what the numbers mean - 20x571 means a tyre with a diameter of 571mm and 20mm wide. 650C is the size of the tyre, which has a diameter of 571mm. The tube size means it fits a 650C tyre, 20 - 28mm wide. If you have 650C wheels, then you're going to need 650C tyres, but you can use just about any w...

Er, but we haven't decided which total to use. I don't think we can count miles cycled before the thread was created, else we would probably be at 10,000 already, so I'm going to go with 1588.8

For endurance mtb racing, your VO2 max and lactic acid tolerance are gonna be huge factors. So yeah, those intervals are a must do. You don't need to do them on a stationary bike, though. Just throw them in in the middle of a normal ride. Ride harder = ride longer & stronger. As for goals, a lo...
